I live in Richards Bay that is very flat. Once a week I go to a hill called Strandlopertjie Hill. (Strandlopertjie is an Afrikaans or Dutch word that can be translated to Little Beach Walker). I start with a 3km easy pace warmup run, then I do 5 or 6 of the hill loop repeats. Each loop is about 1km.
The hill training helps to build leg strength, improve my running endurance, and it gives me mental strength to take on the hills in a marathon or ultra.
