You can tell FETs are compressing low end in a very useful way on drums - so the WA47jr. tends to sound fatter. The overall sound quality is very good, so this one is on my wishlist definitely. No need to say that the 414 is an absolute standard anyway.

47jr is a great all around mic for sure at an unbelievable price. We like using a pair for overheads going into a pair of Groove Tube Brick Preamps.

A pair would sound great!

Thanks for the video, I'm likely going with the WA - 47 Jr!

In the close mic setups, I preferred the 414, but for the distance stuff, 47jr.

The 47jr was as-good-or-better in every application... and this is coming from a 414 fan... tho I admit I own the 47jr. It’s a good mic. Also sounds good on bass cab close up.

Very similar, except the high end, which was clearly more present on the 414. Maybe that's the reason it rejected more hihat/snare when placed as a kick mic?

Liking the Warm Wa-47jr. Very dynamic for a condenser, nice mid tone. Have you tried using it as a close tom mic?

I agree, the mids are really nice on the Was-47jr. I haven't tried it on toms yet but I'm sure it would sound great!

Another vid you have does it right but no way to really compare sounds here if the sounds don’t “touch” back to back playing exact thing. Memory doesn’t work without use of confirmation basically

You really should mention that the Warm Audio mic costs $199 (Black Friday) and the AKG goes for about $1000. While the C414 is a standard, for most people, I bet they don't hear 5x the $$$ difference.

That is a really good point. I should have mentioned the price difference between these mics, it's a pretty wide gap!

Some of the mic placement wasn’t exactly “fair,” but man, I thought the 47jr killed it in basically every position 😳 There were a few where the 414 was like “usable” by comparison, but man... overall, no contest for me 🤷🏼♂️😕 ... And at risk of sounding like a fanboy, frankly, I’d be curious to hear the same tests but with the Warm Audio 414! Anyway! Thanks for posting!

I agree that the mic placement wasn't 100% fair. It's subtle but I'm sure the difference does affect things slightly. And yea, the 47jr is a really nice mic!

Thank you so much for this gem! Great demonstration! Really like the warm audio mic here. Have you kept it?

Thanks! Yes, I still have the Warm Audio mic. I love using it as an outside kick or room mic!

@@Mikas_Emil Unfortunately not. I might try recording someone else singing into it because I'm not a very good singer at all :) I'm sure it will sound great though.

What processing or pre's/compressors do you have going on here?
@kylekrysadrums

Hey Dustin, I used the pre's that are only my RME UFX audio interface. The mic pres on the UFX are quite clean so they seemed to be appropriate for this demonstration. As for compression, I used the FG-Stress by Slate with a ratio of 4:1 but with the "mix" knob at only 50%.
