Thanks locs for the awesome set of videos. I am now officially up and running. One tip, while I left the "Listen 443" command in httpd-ssl.cnf, I had to change httpd.cnf to "Listen 1337" (another common SSL port). If I left httpd.cnf on port 80 I got an error saying I was routing SSL traffic through a non-SSL port. If I set httpd.cnf to listen to port 443 then a got a different error about overuse of port 443....moral of the story ports and protocols confuse me but who cares, it works! Thanks again!

yeah the process is very similar. The only real difference is the location of the files. I was planning on doing a tutorial for it but just haven't got around to it.

Hi Loc, I went through your guide and set everything up on one computer - it worked perfectly. I then needed to set up owncloud on another computer, followed your guide again. Everything went well up until activating ssl. Once I restarted the apache service it will no longer go green, just stays yellow. I went back through, checked I had done everything right, checked that there were no syntax errors - everything's good. Do you have any suggestions I could try? Thanks Loc, Luke

Just curious cause you can't use it on Google chrome and on an iPhone with the page jacked up. Nonetheless I honestly appreciate your work and effort on this video. I stayed up for 5 hours configurating this because I didn't save my files in the C: folder. Thanks, once again .

Hi Loc, Thanks for this very informative instructional video. I have managed to set it all up. Just wondering however, you mentioned something about the SSL being a temp 365 certificate? What does this mean exactly. It will expire after 365 days? What is required then? I look forward to hearing from you. Luke
@locslikes
9 жыл бұрын
Vitalise Psychology technically speaking it will expire and at best it will just warn you when you connect via ssl or at worst you go through and create a new ssl certificate. In saying that i've been using mine for over a year now and haven't had any issues.

Thanks for taking the time to do this! Followed the instructions to the letter, won't turn green after including the httpd-ssl file... If I comment it out again, everything works well locally. Does not appear to be a syntax problem.. been messin' with it for hours. Help?

xSomniium just off the top of m head check the ports you have open in the standard conf file. i remember a time when i couldn't get ssl working because i manually told it to use port 443 in the standard conf file. hope that makes sense.

hey, thanks for the tutorial! i'm a bit stumped here though.. basically i followed everything and at the part where you got the password wrong (around 6:45) i get an error saying "unable to write random state" after i enter the country and stuff with the password. the password was definitely typed in correctly. i tried continuing on to the end of the video and almost everything seems fine (even checked with netstat and the ports were open) however, i couldn't connect with ssl. does that error have anything to do with it? also, i can't seem to assign a custom port.. i did it exactly the way you did, but it just doesn't let me use different numbers even though i use the same format and change just the numbers from the original.. any help would be great, thanks!
@locslikes
9 жыл бұрын
samiam185 yeah if there's an error when you creating SSL it's unlikely it will work properly. The only way i know how would be to go back and go through the process again making sure you get through that part cleanly. If you want to check i have written up the steps here -> www.locslikes.com/install-and-configure-owncloud-server-on-windows-7-using-wamp/

samiam185 if you use server 2012 and use wamp then there's no real advantage but you could use IIS on server but that's a whole other thing.

Couldn't I use a VPN in conjunction with WAMP to make accessing the information safe over the web? Sure, there will be some setting up to do, but wouldn't that make things easier?

***** I haven't had time to play around with OwnCloud and WAMP since my last posted question. However, I am using a program called HotSpot Shield VPN on my Macbook, which is a free VPN service that changes my IP address to another location and also encrypts all my web traffic. It's not a personal VPN. I'm not sure if that matters or not, but it's a start. Also, they make equipment you can buy, like a router/switch, that creates a personal VPN. Jeremy McAdams as you are going through the whole process make sure that there are no other errors in any of the other parts. also make sure to change the paths so they correspond to your version. i have had others have these types of errors and its usually ended up being a pathing issue because they have blindly copied and pasted the instructions with out changing the paths to suit.
@jeremymcadams1720
