What a woman! What a contribution to our country, our ideal, and our values. Her delivery of her words was so powerful, clear and precise. She cleared the path for Kamala, and Kamala has stepped up and into the space.

Barbara Jordan has been the consummate professional and intellectual speaker of our historic lifetime. Her persistence to make this world a better place for ALL is remarkable. She has been my mentor..exact..intellectual and would have had the opportunity to be the first Woman President had she not passed. I applaud her words of inclusion at the Democratic National Convention. God Bless America.

Powerful words from a remarkable woman. Short and succinct. Rep. Jordan and Rep. Shirley Chisholm were two amazing women whose contributions to this country cannot be overestimated. I wonder what they would have to say about the current state of affairs in this country.

Powerful! The one word that stuck out to me, was "WE." She could have said I, but she knew to get somewhere it takes both sides. "We!" Love her, and Ann Richards!! RIP to both

Thanks so much for sharing this inspirational speech by Barbara Jordan. Everyone should heed her words of advice. I found the words of Abraham Lincoln important for all Americans to cherish.

I'm so blessed that while growing up in the Jim Crow South , I had the examples of Shirley Chisholm, Barbara Jordan and many other remarkable strong women ( black and white) set before me.... anytime I see footage of them, I think, " if only"....we are about to cross that threshold

My generation had Barbara Jordan, today's generation has nobody. Although Taylor Swift is teaching kindness and community, young people today don't have Jesse Jackson, Gloria Steinham or any of the voices we had when I was younger.

I always thought that she is/was a Fantastic, Dynamic & Dynamite speaker! Her phrasing and her voice always made you think. You not only heard what she was saying but you absorbed it and you thought about it . That's what made her a good. Good phrasing, good pace, good pausing, not just smart or intelligent, but wise too. With her voice she not only "asked you to listen" but sorta "commanded" that you did. Idk if there is anyone in politics now that truly has all those qualities. Speaker of the house Nancy Polossi and Kahmela Harris come close but not fully there. R.I.P. Sen Jordan. Miss you.

The common thread in all of these speeches from African Americans is that we need to improve as a nation, that we need to be more inclusive, as if Americans are purposely excluding certain groups, i.e., blacks, gays, minorities, etc. Nothing could be further from the truth. The US has embraced all ethnicities. We need to stop this constant condemnation, and praise the US for what it is and what it has accomplished. All these kinds of speeches do is create division and stoke hatred and envy. Not everyone can be the leader. A nation is made of some leaders and many more followers and workers.

Jordan was not stoking hatred at all. She was speaking truth about ALL of us in a democracy and she spoke dynamically and strongly. It's sad that you needed to interpret this as hate. So being informed doesn't ring a bell here in what you are saying and neither does any real understanding. I'm white but I recognize that this country, with 30% more attacks on just Jews in the past few years, are NOT included by everyone. And neither are blacks in way too many cases. It's fine if you want to applaud what should be common kind and just behavior but I accept that if there is inequity anywhere, it needs to be exposed and hopefully corrected. The GOP these days are bent on undermining if not destroying democracy. That's just a very observable fact although it seems very likely that you don't see it that way.

There is no way you're not a clueless white guy. What you expressed is such banal BS -- and it's NOT true. I can only conclude that you're too lazy or insecure to seek out information that contradicts your convenient, self-serving belief.
