"As long as you are moving, as long as you're in motion, and that love, and that compassion, and that memory is pushing you on; You are still persevering and that's the best we do. " -Dr Cornel West

West knows the truth of what happened to Dr. King, Jr. See the 1999 Memphis court case the King Family and William Pepper got under way, and won. www.nytimes.com/1999/12/09/us/memphis-jury-sees-conspiracy-in-martin-luther-king-s-killing.html

Damn, but I miss Craig Ferguson. With all deliberate goofiness aside, he and Letterman were the most intelligent and insightful interviewers ever on late night.

When I hear or read Cornel West I thank God I'm a Christian. No time to hate. No time for division. Let us bless the Lord by being of service to one another. Let's actually think of ways to help each other! That is what it's about. And notice, when Craig is looking for a possible critique of organized religion, Cornel gently but firmly says that he is a product of Shiloh Baptist Church in Sacramento, California. It's a mature, generous version of Christianity that Cornel preaches: helping the poor, the orphan, the prisoner, the other. Notice the emphasis on gays and lesbians, Muslims, Jews, etc. He is preaching a Christianity that is truly Good News.

Some great questions from Ferguson here. I think I've learned more about West and his philosophy from this one video than from a cumulation of dozens of others.

+Applesand pears I can buy that. After all, I can't even picture Jimmy Fallon doing anything remotely similar to an interview like this. But, and I don't mean to just defend Kate night television, Conan O'Brien sometimes does a segment on his KZitem channel called Serious Jibber-Jabber. Those interviews can get pretty deep.

He is a lot better than Michael Eric Dyson. Dyson is a narcissist who loves to hear himself talk. He also bends and contours his beliefs to the moment or person at issue.

It's a shame Cornel West cops out when it comes to faith, he's an excellent modern philosopher.
@ahalpert

I think he's trying to say faith can be a great life tool, esp when more loyal to life than doctrine. It has it's uses in the hardest of times, when rationality will only get you so far bc what you know is incomplete....
