I'll bet there is an alarming amount of women who'd love to be in a relationship like Bett & Alec! 2 complete opposites, the Tall shapely glamour girl Bett & the little tubby semi scrooge, Grumpy Alec A totally unexpected partnership Yet they GEL, they really GET each other & theres a wonderful Loving want & need in them thats Just the Bees Knees! Some of their scenes have had me in stitches, worry, angst, tears, raucous laughter, guffaws & & copious weeping. I recently heard a great play on Radio 4 from quite a few years ago & it was set in Wales with mainly Welsh actors & i remember Sue Jenkins ( Gloria) played a main part. If you listen carefully to her voice, you can just discern that lilting Welsh accent! Although shes cultivated a more anglicised accent as many actors with strong regional tones do More so in the past, than they do today. Sues voice in the play was VERY Welsh sounding & in one part she spoke wonderful Welsh Gaelic Which sounds beautiful when spoken well! I was once told it is quite a difficult language to learn & used a soft gutteral & other Mouth & throat sounds which are quite alien to the English tongue. Im from Northumberland & our dialect ( which also includes the Geordie accent) has origins in our Norse/Viking past but also Main links with Wales! Some Northumbrian Kings married Welsh princesses in the 4th 5th & 6th centuries And our accent has the up & down sing song sound that is very like Welsh. Anyway just a bit of trivia Cheers 🇬🇧👧

Did Granada strike a deal with Stock Aitken and Waterman to play their songs non-stop in the cafe? Or does this reflect the domination they had over the charts at the time? I was 10 at the time, but I only really liked the Pet Shop Boys😏

Theres a channel called Auntie Corrie who posts very early episodes from the very 1st One in 1961 onwards, tons of Black & white episodes & they are brilliant! Seeing a young Emily Bishop as she was, as Miss Nugent & as dithery & tongue tied as Mavis, Is a howl! Esp the episode when she got stage fright in her amateur dramatics play so ended up getting drunk when Len gave Her a half pint glass of sherry which she knocked straight off & bloused onto the stage becoming gregarious & loud until collapsing At the end curtain call! Always wonder on this show how a push can get a car started
@ddrose06
2 жыл бұрын
If you have a dead battery, and your car has a manual transmission, you can start it by get it rolling, in gear, with the clutch depressed. When you get it rolling fast enough, you let out the clutch, while turning the key, and the car will start. In Ken's case, the battery WASN'T dead. So, I have no idea why pushing it, would've got it started.

The frequency of marriages and relationships in Coronation Street begs the question: how often does incest happen? I’m sure some of these characters are the result of inbreeding.
@kevinfowkes2327
Жыл бұрын
Also almost all the marriages in these 1980s Corrie episodes seem to happen within a few weeks of the happy couple getting engaged....Alf & Audrey, Mike & Susan, Kevin & Sally, Alec & Bet, Brian & Gail remarriage, all happened pretty much immediately after deciding to get married. Totally unrealistic in the real world, where it's pretty standard for couples to be engaged for more than a year, even back in the 80s when big expensive event weddings weren't so ubiquitous.

I could be misremembering, but didn’t Alf want references off Kevin and Sally ( and, years ago, off Bet)? Not sure why he didn’t ask Curly for one, but Kevin, Sally and Bet are white-which would mean this isn’t racism just because Shirley’s black.

When Alf talks about his politics over the years it's pretty obvious he's a Tory. I wonder why the show insisted on him being an independent. Note that independent councillors had almost completely died out in the real world by the 1980s, outside a few largely rural outposts. I guess a Tory councillor would have found it hard to be elected in working class Weatherfield.
