Eddie Jones, bass.......in any jazz group, the bass player keeps going....and going...and going. He can't stop the real physical effort of playing, when the flying fingers scream for rest. The acoustic bass strings rip at the fingers, already hardened through years of string work. The bass player is the hardest working in a group, without which they would not be complete. Hail to the bass player.

Benny Powell - trombone, Harry "Sweets" Edison and Joe Newman - trumpets, Billy Mitchell and Buddy Tate - tenor sax, Nat Pierce - piano, Eddie Jones - bass, Gus Johnson - drums, and Marshal Royal, alto sax. This is a nice blend of the generations. "Sweets" and Buddy go back to the '30's and '40's. Gus was in the reorganized big band of 1953. Marshall, Joe, Benny and Billy arrived in the later 50's. Nat was a studio/road sub for Basie from the 50's on. Eddie was a stalwart of the '60's Band.

This is so swinging, I can't sit still. So good to see and hear Nat Pierce again. He use to sit in for Basie when B. was unable to make it for health reasons. Basie had the cookin'est band ever in this world. They just don't make 'em like these guy anymore. Too too hip!
