I bought the 52 inch top and bottom at lowes and was surprised to see it was already put together . They put the handles on and casters on. No scratched or dents I just wheeled it right out the door

Excellent review and a great idea to utilize the mid-box. Looks like your mod was simple and effective. I have a Craftsman tool box set that’s close to fifty years old! Still use it snd it works great. Only repair I’ve made in all these years was new casters. Again, a very good review! Thanks and ride safe my friend....

Hello. I too bought the same three pieces and found out the middle section is too small. I can return it, but I really want the extra drawers as well :) What are the dimensions of the wood you fabricated and placed in the rear? I may decide to keep it! Thanks.

Great Video!!I just recently purchased the bottom box and top box..I already had the middle box and was trying to figure out what to do with it since other boxes top boxes are 16 deep...Definitely will be copying your hack for the middle chest..Thanks again for the Video

I bought the 52 inch top and bottom. I did have the smaller version but it’s a different craftsman tool box . It doesn’t have soft close or ball bearings . I have plenty of room for the wider version and I hated my first tool box it was just stacked to high . Like shown in video

The one good thing about wider tool chests, is that you have a work space on top for about the same storage as 2 vertical boxes. Also the Us general boxes are extremely well made and priced excellently

same here. I still have the Craftsman tool boxes I got when the kids were little! I think back 25-30 years ago the whole setup was a bit over 500 bucks. pre roller bearing drawer slides but still works fine!

Thanks Marty... My father has an old Craftsman box in the basement and I think that’s part of why I have an affinity for the brand. Plenty of nostalgia.

That arrangement looks dangerous as hell. Just wait for that stack to tip over. If the boxes weren't designed to stack 3 high, it shouldn't be done.

AZ-Chris I can pull all of the upper drawers out without it getting wobbly and the same with the lowers. If I pull them ALL out it wouldnt stand even 2 high on its own. I went through great lengths to make sure it is safe which is also why I made it VERY clear that this is NOT the intended design and comes with risks that need to be mitigated.

The wider and bigger your craftsman toolbox is it’s less wobbly

@@GearsGadgets wow, now they are all the shallow ones that fit the shallower top chest. I guess to many toppled over. mine was pretty unstable when full. i ended up trading it off for a workbench style. sorry might be able to find a used one out there somewhere, just be carful putting heavy stuff in top chest.

If you’re not gonna roll it around, take the wheels off. 5” lower and bonus, more stable!

I thought about it but I don't want it sitting on the floor either for water / rust issues, if I build a base I would have to have adjustable feet which would go right back to a stability issue so I just propped up some bed risers and shims under it and it firmed it right up.

I got the 1000 series secondhand from someone and they sold me all 3 pieces for $90. Amazing deal and good toolbox but very thin and drawers suck and get caught easily and require force to open and throw things around but for $90 you cant go wrong. I wish I had the 2000 series but for the price of the 2000 series setup you can buy a milwaukee set with better quality and warranty for $100 more so maybe go with that instead since all these craftsman boxes are VERY THIN

Ok box, problem is other retailers have better built boxes for cheaper. On the reviews i cant consider them, as a lot of them are from paid reviews. The proof is there as Stanley B&D had to improve the box as the first gen had horrible built quality. Good for homeowners and DIY, not great for any mechanic.
