Ok! Made these biscuits this morning! They are unbelievably easy & SO TASTY! I made a half recipe, using all purpose flour (w 1 1/2t baking powder & 1/2 salt - per 1 C - mixed in well) & 1 little 8 oz box of Trader Joe’s whipping cream that I had in my cupboard. Then I baked mine in an air fryer bc we live in an apartment & didn’t want to heat up my kitchen! It worked fine, but I will try in an oven for comparison as soon as it’s cooler outside! ❤️

That is so different!! I make mine with 2 cups self rising flour 1/2 cups of cubed butter 1/2 butter milk Blend ice cold butter in flour add buttermilk until it come together and I make biscuits a lot higher than that and brush with butter bake for 15 min 350 But I will try Craigs recipe too

That sounds like a great way to have heavy whipping cream on hand at all times. 😊 You should be able to freeze the cream. The consistency may be a little different when you thaw it, but it should work fine for baking, like in this recipe.

Oh yes, this recipe is a classic, especially with Southern cooks! If yours come out a little greasy, you could try making them using a little less heavy cream. That will cut down on the fat in the recipe and should help with that.

Thank you for asking! I have friends that use dairy free milk (soy) and butter (which they say is okay for their lactose free diet - it has trace lactose and doesn’t affect them). They use those two items to make a substitute for heavy cream in some recipes. I’ve never tried it in this recipe, but it could be worth a shot! Thanks for watching! 😊

If you will heat cream slightly in microwave it will mix with the flour more easily making a beautiful dough so great with which to work. 🌸🌷🌸

This recipe, as you said, IS a classic. I made biscuits for years using regular flour, baking soda, salt, shortening or butter, and milk. Just a few months ago I discovered this easy recipe- but there are slight variations. Some put equal amounts of self rising flour and cream, and some cook at different temperatures and times. I’ve seen 400 degrees for 15-20 min, and this one, 450 for 10-12 minutes. And in the videos they all turn out good. Your video stands out because of how calm and low key you are, and that you talk about using the tools you have. And I love that you pat out your dough instead of using a rolling pin. Oh-question: did you grease your baking sheet? Most people do, but it wasn’t mentioned here. I’m going to check out your other videos.

Thanks so much for your comment and kind words. I really appreciate the feedback. 😊 I don't actually grease my pan and, so far, they haven't stuck to the pan. But you could grease the pan or use parchment paper. That would work, for sure.

Yes there's many variations. All I use is self rising flour. The other way was my mother's way. Too much time in the kitchen with all those ingredients, kneading then baking. Now it takes 15-,20 minutes and are done. Or I mix it at night to have ready for the morning. Breakfast and run!

Discovered this recipe many years ago and its the only biscuit recipe I have used since.. Small tip if I may, after patting the dough out, divide into 4 and stack them , then pat stacked dough out again and cut them... Amazing layers

When you opened the biscuit, it looked like my mom’s homemade biscuits. YUM😋. Do these taste better than Pillsbury’s Grands biscuits? I eat the brand occasionally, but I’m not so fond of them. I mostly like their crescent rolls.

Surprisingly, you don’t need to. But if you did, it wouldn’t hurt them. This is an extremely forgiving recipe. Either way, they will come out great!

Joe the way I mix my flour is I make a el in the center of the flour. Add the cream and just stir around and around and and just shake the bowl slightly to get all the flower onto the biscuit ball. I put flower on my hands and shape the biscuit I to a ball , press and put in the baking pan. I won't put flour on the dough. Cause the more moisture in the dough, the higher and bigger the biscuits will rise and be just so fluffy. Out of 2cupsnof you should have gotten at least a dozen biscuits. They look yummy

I've never tried them with whole milk, but they should come out. They may end up a little less fluffy because the high fat content in whipping cream is what gives them their texture. It's a little pricey here, too, but still reasonable. If heavy cream is expensive or hard to get, you may want to just make traditional biscuits with butter and milk. That might be easier and actually less expensive. Hope that helps! 😊

Yes! Go ahead and mix up the dough. Then make your biscuit shapes and stick them in the freezer. When you want to cook them, just cook them for a couple extra minutes. They end up cooking a lot like the frozen biscuits you buy in the freezer section. Just keep an eye on them and don't let them overcook. 😊 Thanks for the great question!

Thanks for watching! Good question. 😊 The heavy whipping cream works in this recipe because of its high fat content. I don't think Cool Whip will work because it's non-dairy and doesn't have all of the ingredients found in heavy whipping cream.

Good recipe wrong flour

There are many versions of this recipe, for sure. What type of flour do you use? I'm always interested in improving a recipe!

@@craiglovescooking Martha White flours are made from a “hard” type of wheat that makes a better biscuit. It may not be available in all parts of the country it is a Southern staple. Your biscuits looked great.

If you'd heated your heavy whipping cream to 100° in the microwave you'd been able to mix your dough much easier. Heating the cream melts the butterfat in the cream thus coating the flour easier. You'd also been able to drop them by a measuring cup and your dough would have been very soft without adding any additional flour.

You should sift your flour then measure your two cups. Then use one cup of cream. They will be much lighter.
