YESSS! Dusty's voice was like whiskey and velvet all at the same time. When she was recording, she stopped and told Burt Bacharach that she thought it was too sultry/sexy sounding. He said - essentially - good, keep doing it like that! :D Do more Dusty: You Don't Have to Say You Love Me, Son of a Preacher Man, and for a real poppy one: I Only Want to Be with You. Oh, yeah her vocal control was insane!

Holy cow! You reacted to Dusty! What a great singer, with cross-genre range. Her essential "Son of a Preacher Man" is as _soul_ as it comes, "Spooky" is ultra-sultry, and her early hits like "I Only Want to Be With You" are gorgeous pop fun

"The Look of Love" was one of the most covered songs of the 1960s. No wonder, it was composed by the legendary songwriting team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Several different artists had a hit with it, although I think Dusty's version is the best. Although the one by Sergio Mendez and Brazil '66 was also excellent. Although Dusty was part of the British Invasion, she sounds more like part of the Blue Eyed Soul sound that arose in the '60s on the heels of artists like the Righteous Brothers. Check out Dusty's other big hits, "I Only Want to Be With You," "Son of A Preacher Man," and "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me."

Dusty (RIP) was one of a kind, an amazing vocal stylist. She's got a huge catalog of hits: "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me", "Son of a Preacher Man", "Wishin' and Hopin'", "I Only Want to Be With You", and my personal favorite "Brand New Me". She was part of the 60s British Invasion" only rivaled by our own, Miss Dionne Warwick. These two women did great justice to pop music, primarily singing from the Burt Bacharach/ Hal David songbook.

Mary Isobel Catherine Bernadette O'Brien OBE, better known by her stage name Dusty Springfield, was an English singer. With her distinctive mezzo-soprano sound, she was a popular singer of blue-eyed soul, pop and dramatic ballads, with French chanson, country, and jazz in her repertoire. Her body of work is enormous. Everyone wanted to record with her.

Dusty is the greatest white, female singer of all time. She can sing anything better than you ever thought it could sound. She had it all. Her vocal interpretations are second to none. RiP Dusty, taken from us by breast cancer, 25 years ago today....on March 2, 1999. Listen to her sing Goin Back and Some of Your Lovin by Carole King, and Losing You, written by her brother Tom Springfield for her. 24 Hours From Tulsa, Just a Little Lovin, and Tupelo Honey are just a few gems....and of course Son of a Preacher Man, You Don't Have to Say You Love Me, and Spooky. She truly was the Queen of Blue Eyed Soul. Her full name is Mary Isabel Catherine Bernadette O'Brien, a woman of Irish Catholic descent, born and raised in London, and who attended convent schools. DUSTY was her stage name.

The sax solo is styled after Stan Getz's playing on "The Girl from Ipanema". Getz recorded an instrumental version of the song before the Hal David added lyrics to it for Dusty Springfield to record for the soundtrack to the 1967 film Casino Royale. Dusty Springfield had a big hit in 1966 with "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me". And also had a hit in 1969 with "The Windmills of Your Mind". But her version of "You Don't Own Me" is tops.

Greatest British female singer ever, voted 2nd in the world by Billboard after Aretha. I personally think The Queen of Soul was a good title for Aretha, but Dusty was multi-facetted and beats Aretha for #1 female Singer because of that.. Dusty challenged Aretha on Soulfulness, but also reigned supreme in Pop and Power ballads. She sang 'Folk' initially with her two brothers as the group 'The Springfields'. Everyone thought that was a family name, she ran with that and chose the first name 'Dusty'. The Springfields did great 'three part' harmonies, but her brothers were happy to back her and she lead their sound. A solo career has never been a more obvious move and more deserved. Her catalogue of hundreds of tracks is packed with so many classics, but just as many lesser known gems. Like Scott Walker she was continuously hounded by the paparazzi and she was later scandalized about her personal life choices. These made her an idol to a new audience and she recorded some of her last classics with The Pet Shop Boys. Hard to imagine her ever losing her position as the best of the best. Please react to more of her hits, you'll love them and so will your subscribers.

Oh man! Doggone! This is not Dusty's original record (from her 1967 album of the same name), which made it to the U.S. charts. (I don't know if this one is a re-recording, or maybe it's the version that was used in the movie Casino Royale. 🤷♀️ ) But the original (kzitem.info/news/bejne/p4efnqmOjHupgHYsi=56Qsq9Z5GdPiAHKg), is much better, IMO. The sound created in the studio (sort of echo-ey, for lack of a better word), plus the string and percussion arrangements, make a huge difference IMO, and somehow make the original sound a lot more sultry and sexy to me. Even if you don't react to the original on the channel, I suggest you listen to it anyway.
