To keep verses in the right order, I find a connection within the verse that uses the number of the verse to remind me of the content. Example: In Psalm 91, at verse 14 it says, "'Because he loves me,' says the Lord, 'I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.'" I remember that Valentine's Day is on February 14 and Psalm 91:14 is talking about LOVE!🙂 Or back to verse 13 which is a number that many associate with Bad Luck, and the verse talks about "treading on the lion and the cobra..." which--to me--absolutely seems like VERY Bad Luck!

Thank you, Josh. I can't see shame in struggling over scripture memorization, but I can in quitting. I started memorizing extended passages in January and love the spiritual benefit I'm getting from it. I now know Colossians better than I ever have before and love being able to mull over it during my many nights of insomnia. Now, memorizing Galatians (which is definitely more difficult for me), is pulling the book together in a personal way. The speed or ease with which I memorize is irrelevant; taking the word of God into my heart matters deeply.

You're hardly the first, but... my husband is Paul and I am Carla. I wish I had a nickel for every time I've been called Paula, even by people who've known me for years! I could go out to eat or something, lol! Yes, memorizing scripture is a blessing. Thank you for what you do!

Don’t sweat switching between books. Ask a reader what book they are reading and they’ll have multiple books being read at the same time. I’m working on Romans with a friend and we’ve been going slow. We have Romans 1-9 down. At the beginning of the year I started Ecclesiastes and got a quarter through before pausing and doing Philippians because my church was going through it. My goal is still to get Ecclesiastes down by the end of the year. But if I don’t, there is always 2025 (Lord willing). Keep it up, Josh.

Your videos help and encourage me. Thanks again for serving the Lord in this way! I realized from watching you do 1 Peter that I do more alternate ways than I realized and it is fine and good to use whatever part of a method you need to help with that part of what is being memorized.

Thanks for this Josh. I battle shame constantly in scripture memory. Bursts of motivation, followed by periods of struggling and forgetting what I knew. Hard to continue when it gets hard and verses are forgotten. Even just getting overwhelmed has been a lot. Thank you for your leadership and content!

Hey Josh, I became very inspired the last week watching your videos. I watched you memorize 1 Peter 1 and began to take up the challenge. I didn't do the memory palace, but ran off your idea of memorizing each word by seeing just the first letters and reciting them so often that I started eliminating them down the the first letter of each verse. And I've almost memorized the entire chapter in two days, granted I've read the book several times. I just thought if someone had flash cards that had the first letter of each word and then one with all the first letters of each verse, and maybe breaking up the first and second half of the chapters, this might be a good simplified method?

Definitely! Have you ever tried the Bible Memory App (or Verses App)? It uses the first letter method to help you review the verses you've memorized, almost like a flash card.

I have! I think that's actually what gave me the idea! That is a great app!
