Primarily fish, although if given the chance, they will also eat birds and rodents drinking from the shore. Typically you can tell what crocodiles eat by looking at their snout. If it's thin and long that typically means that its diet mainly consists of fish. Their size mostly has something to do with the amount of predators in the area, mainly hunters. Also keep in mind that crocodiles don't need to eat as regularly as we do, in fact they can go months without eating.

@@axelotlgaming7921 hi, I appreciate your reply. you're right about other species of croc like the Asian croc gharial that has evolved a long, thin snout to better catch fish, but in Costa Rica they have only one species of croc. salt water crocs are known for taking down large prey - so with that many of them I'm wondering how they're sustaining themselves. But you are correct that they won't need to eat for a month or more after a large meal.

@@lilitudeamnocte248 Hi, Saltwater crocodiles doesn't live in costa rica, they are native to south east asia only. The crocodiles in the video are American crocodiles, which look a lot like SW's but have a thinner snout, and typically don't get as large. Yes, saltwater crocs, american crocodiles and other large crocodillians are known to occasionally feed on larger rodents or birds, or small mammals, but 80% of their diet still consists of fish. The footage you see on documentaries of large crocs eating a cow or wildebeast drinking from the shore, really rarely happens. Also, there are actually two species of crocodilians native to costa rica, the american crocodile and the spectacled caiman, a much smaller crocodile with no confirmed human kills
