CSX refers to this train as I140 and is operating on the S&NA North Subdivision. The bridge over the Tennessee River is owned and dispatched by Norfolk Southern as part of their Memphis District. This agreement goes back to the Louisville & Nashville and Southern railroads and exists from the Decatur passenger depot to a location on the causeway where the tracks split apart and go their separate ways; a distance of approximately 1.5 miles. Both railroads also service the many industries that are located along the waterfront. In 1978-79 the swing span was replaced with a vertical lift span as well as some of the fixed truss spans were replaced. Power by three big GE locomotives, two up front elephant style and a third as the rear DPU, the intermodal train will make short work of the 186.9 miles between Birmingham, AL and Nashville, TN.
I encourage everyone to watch to the end as you will see a sneak peak of my next video.
