You know I never liked euro cars as a mechanic of 10 years until we owned the old tiguan, bought with 71k on it, got rid of it for a bigger car at 202k miles, did a pcv valve, wheel bearing and a waterpump although waterpump wasnt leaking did it as preventitive we beat the crap out of it, did alot of research into taking care of it, alot of original parts. Id say they indeed can be very reliable if you are willing to do maintainence sooner than later.

That was your first mistake going with VW…yes better tech but that’s pretty much it! They can’t beat the Japs in reliability so they stuff them with better tech to entice the younger gen drivers! I’ve had 4 Mazdas already and all have been super reliable - won’t ever touch a VW!

@@ztekz this is it right here. Many ppl commented on youtube about cx5 is outdated. And Im thinking, for what its worth cx5 has plenty of features that make my life very convenient, such as hud,auto-lock,pretty good sound system, has almost all safety tech, epb, smart phone connectivity while maintaining reliability, build quality n material quality surpassing its competitors. After all it is a transportation unit, not a laptop/tablet or pc.

The Apple Car Play in the CX-5 imo tops the tech of the VW with no CarPlay. My cousin has the ‘22 Tiguan and I a 2020 CX-5 touring. I definitely love the styling and cargo space of the new Tiguan, but the CarPlay in my CX-5 is a game changer. Especially with the flexibility between Google & Apple Maps. Not to mention the control knob between the seats, makes operating it a seamless experience compared to a touch screen. The only downside is I wish there was more room in the backseat in comparison to the Tiguan. Other than that, getting a power lift gate in a mid-level CX5 is a game changer, too, especially as a mom with a little kid. Whereas the Tiguan only features a power lift gate on select trims. Nevertheless, I do like the panoramic sun roof my cousin’s Tiguan has, too, but again, he doesn’t have CarPlay or a power lift gate. So it really depends!

Have both cars and they both have pros n cons. I dont prefer one over the other as they balance out. Its more about styling for preference, choose what you want and go for it.

Great comparison. It’s easy to see why both of these respective models are best sellers for both Mazda and Volkswagen. They’re both good all rounders. I’m kind of in both camps. My wife has an Audi Q5 which is the Tiguan with more HP and Torque as well as more luxury. My daughter has a CX-30 which we also love to drive. I have an MX-5 as weekend toy and a 4Runner for daily use. I’m impatiently waiting for the new CX-70 and will probably replace my 4Runner with that when it’s available. We love Mazda but nervously own an Audi with every extended warranty that they would sell us. I have a feeling we’re going to use it on the Audi. I would never buy a warranty for the Mazda though, they’re fantastic cars with outstanding reliability.

I drove the SEL R line and purchased a CX 5 signature. The VW is bigger, 3rd seat is useless, power and driver engagement doesn't hold a candle to the CX 5. Infotainment is more techy but after getting used to the Mazda dial, I like it better than a touch screen.

In Australia the extended wheelbase Tiguan competes with the CX-8 (which is an extended wheelbase CX-5). Having driven both back to back, it really comes down to what kind of driving experience you want. In Australia they both get very similar warranties = 5 year, annual/15,000km servicing (although Mazda just switched to 15,000km recently). This has slowly become the default factory warranty with BMW only just changing from the archaic 3 year warranty to 5 year warranty. Although under Australian consumer law, even cars as old as 10 years get some form of compulsory coverage. Two main differences exist in Australia that put Mazda ahead. First is that in Australia we still get the non US EPA diesel (i.e. Euro V). It's here where the Mazda diesel is years ahead of the VW mainly because VW uses a very standard high compression diesel, where Mazda uses a much more modern low compression diesel. Best way to compare is to park them next to each other, warm them up first (Mazda has a loud warm up that settles due to low compression). The Tiguan is much more agricultural because of the traditional compression ratio. Next is when it comes to the consumer. In consumer ratings, Mazda is often top 2. VW is almost always last.
