I had the privilege of driving a 2023 CX50 while my 2020 CX5 was in the shop being repaired. Biggest difference I noticed was the CX50 is basically a CX30 but bigger. The CX50 felt like driving a station wagon rather than an SUV. It sits low to the floor and the roof is very low so if your tall u will feel cramped. The windows are small as well. The CX5 your going to have a more tight steering wheel and it feels like a true SUV. If your tall your more likely to fit inside the CX5 more comfortably.

After taking ours on a 900 mile road trip to Florida I would never use it again for another trip that far it was just terrible harsh ride stiff seats and heavy steering my rear was in such pain that we actually called up our dealer about trading in for another cx5 sig to our surprise the tech told me that a few customers had trade it in for something else for the same reasons we had. We decided to keep ours since we have another cx5 carbon for road trips.

My wife and I looked at both, but since we're expecting our 1st born soon, we're leaning toward the CX-50. It just felt more spacious and had more leg room in the back seat. If our newborn wasn't to be considered, I'd definitely go for the Carbon Edition. Those are sharp! Really impressed with the CX-50 though.

Saying the CX-50 is the perfect off-road vehicle is a bit much. You can take it off-road but unlike dedicated off-road vehicles, the CX-50 has some limits that we'll run into pretty quick in true off-roading. It's a hybrid vehicle that can do both road & off-road but like any hybrid, it's a compromise.
