Warren, you're top notch. The knowledge you have is seemingly unsurpassed. Obviously there will be those that might say otherwise, those that ridicule, those that do nothing other than second guess what you do. Keep doing what you do and ignore those that may say otherwise as they are only a distraction from the great work that you perform. I’m on the east coast and watch you on every video and only wish I could have you as a mechanic here. Thanks for sharing your expertise.

We had a guy that overhauled an isx in our dealership a couple weeks ago and the truck came back with clattering in the gear train only under load way more then a normal isx, pulled the gear cover and found the cam gear came loose, luckily no valves kissed the piston or anything, went to torque the cam gear again and it wouldn't hold torque, found the old cam gear bolt was stretching so now every overhaul gets a new cam gear bolt

@jameshood3692

@@westerntruckandtractorrepa1353 yes sir, almost didn't catch it, everytime you'd go to double check your torque because it would torque down but the bolt would stretch after torque and it'd keep turning after double checking it. That's the only one I've ever seen do that but after that kinda makes you nervous re-using the bolt haha

Hi Warren, A long time ago, when I worked on cars for a living, a guy brought me an old FJ Landcruiser and a "shade tree rebuilt small block" and a kit to stuff it in the FJ. I should have inspected the motor before I put it in but did not. Tried to turn the crank to install the distributor but it would not budge. Oh oh! I called the guy to ask where he got the small block. He tells me a friend of a friend "rebuilt" the engine with parts out of a junkyard. Oh boy! The pan was off, so I crawled underneath to take a look at the crank and rod journals and noticed the offset bosses on the rod journals looked funny. I then pulled the heads off and sure enough, the arrows on top of the pistons were pointed every which way. Not only that, there were two pistons pointing the right way, but the rods were backwards. I have no idea how they could have torqued up correctly. I argued with the guy for a month about what it would take to make it a reliable rebuild and threatened to have it towed outta my garage. Finally got it rebuilt and it ran fine. Guy gave me a check written by his girlfriend and I insisted he go with me to the bank the check was drawn on and cash it immediately. Got my money. Three weeks later, I heard he was hunting with it and got it off the shoulder of a logging road. It eventually rolled 250 feet down into a ravine. Lol.

That is what the Cummins manual says to do, and how I primed mine after the in frame, the second in frame. You want to see 40 psi on that oil gauge prior to that first start, barring the motor is the first step, and then the pump. That was essentially a dry start on that motor, I bet those lower end bearings are now sketchy like the ones I pulled out of mine, on the second in frame I did myself.

Hi Warren, Glad you got to the motor mounts, folks seem to think they are supposed to last forever. That 8n tractor sounds like it will give you some good service, sounds like it might have been used in a chicken house sometime to pick up litter and spread it. farmers came up with a lot of ways to get a bucket on them with these huge steel skeletons, A mount would get built then lifting arms, even saw one with a cable release dump bucket, but it worked. Those guys who came back from service in WWII did a lot for the farming industries after seeing how stuff was done elsewhere. I saw a weight barrel made with a three point hitch bars cut into a barrel then filled with concrete to keep the backend down and weight off the manual steering, that is when they took power steering pumps off of cars and trucks to add to their tractors until the kits came out.

Where is the pump to prelube the motor trough the port at the oil filter to fill the oil galleys and head per Cummins? I don't know...
