What have I been draining, then?" to be honest, the gearbox' drain plug is visible when you lay under your car's front, and the motor one's is like, hidden behind the oil pan's edge, and out of sight. unless you jack the vehicle up... we changed oil for him, and refilled the gearbox.

The owner had scabbed a winch onto the headache rack to get the logs (it was his "business") onto the bed and was powering it using two jumper cables hooked to the truck's battery. He'd cut the clamps off two of the ends and twisted the wire together to get them to reach. DOT enforcement had a fun time with that truck...the officer canceled the registration on the spot, pulled the plates, and flagged the VIN as not roadworthy, effectively deadlining the truck.

I killed a clutch in less than 2 miles of attempting to drive a manual, over the course of about 3 hours. I was 15...Ma had this "thing" where no kid of hers wasn't going to be able to drive stick *snort* She took me out to the high school parking lot to give me lessons in the company car. A Renault LeCar, which was one of the tiniest jokes on the market at the time. I literally, yes literally, could not fit both of my legs into the driver's side. I had to roll with the door open and my left leg sticking out. And I was supposed to learn how to drive stick in THAT. I immediately said that it wasn't going to happen and to just let me have the old Buick (automatic), but she had her heart set on tilting at this particular windmill. For almost three hours, I was made to attempt to keep the little carlet from stalling out, trying in vain to reach the legendary "fourth," while it stalled and had to start over again and again. Finally, I was allowed to give it up and she drove us home. The next day, after it had all night to cool off, the price of her obstinate obsession made itself known. That car was going NOWHERE. At the dealer, (the boss always insisted on using the dealership for repairs), they instantly accused Ma of letting a n00b try to drive it, and didn't she have a teenager in the right age group? Ha ha she managed to talk them out of mentioning that to the boss... The bill was $600 back in the 80s, stuck to the company, but still enough to convince Ma that yes, a kid of hers WAS INDEED not going to drive a stick! I got the Buick after the boss said that any more clutch repairs would be on her. I'm sure he "did the math" same as the repair tech, without needing to be told. And that's how you kill a clutch without even having the car on the road. Make your teenager try to drive it due to some private obsession, in a car she can't even fit in, instead of forking over the keys to the suitably-sized, automatic land yacht.

I dont see how the shop declining to do work on the car helps. The owner will continue to drive as it is. Do what is sometimes done in the UK - phone the police, apologise that you have temporarily lost the keys and wait for him to be arrested when he leaves the shop. Unroadworthy cars are towed immediately and if beyond economical repair, are crushed. The UK has 1700 deaths per year on the roads and the US has 35,000. I wonder why?

I just checked, I haven't had a vehicle for about 25 years, so please excuse this error. Inspection is every 2 years, a new car has 3 years until first inspections, after that, also every 2 years. As an American let me inform you about the concept of a "winter beater" used in many states bordering Canada with terrible winters. I suspect many of the very rusty cars are used as 2-3 month winter cars only. You use them for a couple winter seasons, because they throw salt all over the road for de-icing, and then throw them away when they rust out.. Or I hope to god thats whats going on.

The first inverter was so cheap it ended up melting, so they had to purchase a second slightly more powerful one.
