On August the 8th, 2023, a remarkable gathering took place in the heart of the Everglades. Cypress Chapter Isaac Walton League proudly hosted Director Roger Young and Commissioner Preston Ferrier of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. This event was a beacon of collaboration bringing together state and federal agency leaders, dedicated legislators, and passionate conservation organizations. Our journey commenced with a visit to a historic Miccosukee tree island.
Betty Osceola. A guardian of the Everglades shared her reflections on a lifetime in this unique ecosystem and the enduring challenges of restoration. We then met with gladesmen at a traditional airboat camp, experiencing firsthand their deep connection to the land. Over a shared lunch, meaningful conversations flowed freely about the Everglades, her rich history, and her promising future.
The list of participants, too numerous to mention all, represented a united front in the mission to protect and preserve the Everglades.
In the spirit of harmony and collaboration, we took significant steps forward on this day. Thanks to the vision of Director Roger Young, Commissioner Preston Ferrier, and the dedication of all who joined, the Everglades future is brighter than ever.
