Sweet build on the cat. They should have been built that way from the factory. I loved the way you have the dirt boiling over in the scraper without help. BTW, nice operating skill by never even coming close to 'two blocking' the cables.

Michael Oliver, that D7 originally had an inline 5.75x8" 4 cylinder engine. This V8 was never used in a Cat although Caterpillar built it. The D17000s were a power unit and installed in machines not built by Cat. They were a 5.75x8" V8 and the D8's used a 5.75X8" six cylinder engine. When the D-9 came out about 1955, they had a brand new 6.25x8" six cylinder engine (D353) and they were never equipped with this V8.

Was a V8 a special option in these back in the day?
@tyfrank3427

No it wasn't. They put it in that D7 but the same engine family. The D17000 engine was not used in any of Caterpillar's tractors. It is double the engine used in the D7. The D 8800 or later on the D339 was a 5.75x8" 4 cylinder engine. The D 17000 is a V8 5.75x8" engine. The six cylinder 5.75x8" D13000 was used to power the D8s of that era.

Is the V8 engine factory stock? The tractor looks like it should have a straight-6 engine in it from the factory.

If it's a D7 it had originally had an inline 4 cylinder engine in it.

looks like its got a D8 hood and dash that was put on D7 -3T it does look like an 8 ( home made ) . I got a A 1960 turbo D7D 17A cable control #25 and a hydraulic blade 1961 D7E 47A direct drive. The D7E is as big as the older D8 , big change on 7s from 1960 17A to 1961 47A or 48A
