The lead guitarist Jonny Greenwood plays a glockenspiel on this song. Ed O'Brian's electric guitar works around the same melody as the glockenspiel and Thom Yorke plays an acoustic with a 3rd fret capo as kind of a rhythm guitar backing.

DAD: "Is David Bryne {lead singer of Talking Heads} in that band?" Interesting tidbit: Radiohead derived their name from the song "Radio Head" that is on the Talking Heads 1986 album True Stories. SON: When you think he's ready, perhaps have your dad sit through the entire OK Computer album. Everything in its right place.

How can the lyrics not be as important? The lyrics are what make this song such a vicious rib kick that perfectly complements the lullaby-like melody “A handshake of carbon monoxide” - what a resignation and acceptance of modern life.

I think in a lot of cases with Radiohead, the lyrics aren't as much about the actual words as they are a vehicle for his vocals which are more of an instrument in themselves. Lovely video! Dad is very cool.

I'm with the son regarding lyrics. For me they can't make a song, but they can ruin it if they're bad. But overall the voice is just another instrument to me. I kind of approach most music the same as I would classical or jazz: is it interesting, is it hummable/memorable, do I like the sounds I'm hearing, etc. Most lyrical content is just subpar poetry anyway, the words themselves mainly interesting for how they complement the music.

The best music treats the vocals as just another instrument. The lyrics are painting broad abstract while carrying a melody along.

If you do another sit down reaction like this, you should totally pull up the lyrics on genius on a phone or ipad so he doesn't have to hunch over to read them !

Here we come, all the Radiohead-fans who love when new people react to them, we usually flood in 🤣 2022? Oh you sweet summer child ❤ A bit of an odd choice for a first song, but I look forward to hearing more of them. I have listened to this since 1997 and still haven't heard the lyrics really. I always listen to the music first from Radiohead, so much to listen to. Nothing since 2016 no. If the bells throw you I look forward to you listening to Kid A. 😂 To me, folk music with that much focus on the lyrics is a bit boring to be honest, like folk music.

No, it's Radiohead, not Talking Heads. I also like the latter.
