A fine composition about someone who lives a mundane life with a pretty melody taking them along. Nicely done.

I always took this as a suicide song. A guy sitting on his driveway taking the ‘handshake of carbon monoxide’, contemplating a life he cannot cope with, despite his pretty house and garden, and drifting away…….. but maybe that’s just me.

The music video certainly supports your theory, as the singer spends most of the video drowning.

It's definitely about feeling your drowning and suicidal ideation. The way it's written seems like it's about trying to live with a cluster B disorder. People that feel too much and can't cope, can't hold a job long-term. BPD, autism, bipolar disorder, PDA, CPTSD, etc. Just wanting to escape, but you can't escape yourself.

I am easily entertained. Your intro really made me laugh. Followed by a wonderful and sad masterpiece by Radiohead. The most straight-forward song on 'OK Computer', but it effectively manages to convey the intended emotion. One of the highlights for me in their entire catalogue.

When trapped in an unsympathetic lifestyle or job the only protest is a silent, private one. In fiction there is resolution. In real life there quite often isn't. Instead of a rebellious reaction to unpleasant circumstances this song is more or less a wistful acceptance that there is nothing you can do when you are situated in such a place.

Can't wait for Lucky, and hopefully you'll dive more into their discography cause you're just scratching the surface of what they're capable of with this album. Their experimental albums are much more interesting to review imo.

Daniel, I'm surprised (no pun intended, seriously) that in the online info for this song, there was no mention of the fact that in the original 1997 CD booklet notes for this album, "No Surprises" was dedicated to Kurt Cobain. I *don't* think the song is *advocating* for suicide. In my view, it is empathizing with the experience, that many people have, of feeling worn-down and exhausted by life's challenges.

The handshake of carbon monoxide makes me think of suicide by car exhaust. A quiet, peaceful way to go out.

I know this is an old comment so I probably shouldn't be replying to this, but just as a PSA from someone who's been through suicidal episodes, death by carbon monoxide poisoning is NOT quiet, NOT peaceful, and definitely NOT painless or even quick. It can cause chest pains, vomitting, seizures and if you don't end up dead, long-term brain damage as well.

This song right after Climbing up the walls is such a devastating one two punch it gets me every time. It's important to listen to the whole album with no breaks to get the whole impact of it and with Radiohead you have to do multiple listens often it's just how they are as a band.

May have already posted this, but you may love MUSE if you like what you hear from OK computer. They have that heavy distortion and experimental rock that you get from earlier Radiohead, but they definitely have their own flavor and have a more epic/energetic sound. There’s some great stuff in Showbiz, but IMO the main dishes are from Origin of Symmetry and Absolution. Basically all of their stuff from the 90s and 2000s

I saw Radiohead at Victoria Park London and the park in their home town and mine, Oxford. Although not my favourite record, I can still see why it is the most important in forty five years. In that English vein, try Come up by Suede. No one else does reactions to them I think - maybe they are blockers though. Still enjoying your reactions - the most intelligent.

There is amazing music in every decade (except disco…..just kidding). But from the 1940s, 50s, 60, 70s, 80s thru to the early 2000s we’re really great. Whether it’s bag band, Country & Western, folk rock, R&B, soul, funk, new wave, heavy metal, grunge, alternative you can find something great in all of these, have an open mind & heart & enjoy them all.

its been a while since you reacted to any iron maiden and im not sure but from what im guessing is you dont know that they released new material in the past month. They are incredible pieces of work. so since its been a long time why not do a reaction video featuring both of the 2 new songs that came out. "The Writing On The Wall (Official Video Recommended)" and "Stratego" or even better you can do an album reaction once their new album releases with these 2 songs and others on September 3rd which is in 4 days.
