Hey Wes, I work for a John Deere dealer and back in the summer we had a brand new right off the truck from deere 6125R tractor and it wouldnt do anything in B range. So we took it apart and found the teeth shelled off one of the synchronizer gears.Those teeth were all in the belly of the case and even down in the FWD drop box. We found out that because of our great governments regulations here that Deere has to buy blank gears from China then Deere gets them and cuts the teeth to make them whatever gear they need them to be and the metal composition is not as good as it would be if made here.

It's a good thing you do your own repair work. Being a bit paranoid myself, had I experienced transmission problems after repeated trips to a repair shop, I'd have concluded that the shoddy repair work was to blame (accompanied by loud, but fruitless complaints to the service department) even though the real issue may very well be the design of the transmission.

And that is why, in a dealership setting, working on this type of repair, it's quoted to be a $15,000 job. All sections of the trans and rear end would have been disassembled, cleaned, inspected, repaired the first time it was apart. Sorry Wes, no offense intended, but ass u me - you said it not me. The brass chunk Timmy found, I would have dug in until I found the source of the piece. Not because I wanted to, but because I have to warranty my repairs.
@super6954
8 жыл бұрын
+waults Hi It depends on the dealership that might of only been to fix the power shift, problem. 2 places I worked you could point out something else going wrong that you found when working on an original problem. The shop manager would look and say fix what you are told on the work order and thats the next job when it piles up!. I got better ethics and want to be able to sleep at night. I quit those places. And now work self employed i'm guessing you might be as well ?. This way I can tell the customer what else is going wrong and give him the choice to fix it now or not. If he says no, it's written on his invoice that he was advised and declined to fix it!!, so there is no comeback on me later. It gets real interesting working in some dealerships, The customers can be in a position where they are getting screwed over and have no clue whats really going on behind those doors that say employees only!.
@waults
8 жыл бұрын
super6954 I hear ya, in the dealership I work, the customer ultimately makes the decision on what gets repaired. And as you stated if something is being ignored, it is noted to protect our arse. But when I estimate a trans job like Wes has here, I don't give the option of not taking everything apart and inspecting/cleaning. I estimate the full teardown and reassembly, with a "possible extras" worst case scenario as an estimate over and above. With the powershift failure here, everything needed to be opened and cleaned up. The synchro failure would have been found at that time and would have been included in the "extras" estimate. In our dealership, we are considered expensive, but we have a reputation of things being fixed right, the first time. My techs all know that when they find something wrong, we address it. Putting the blinders on and letting it go without the customer being informed is grounds to being fired.
@super6954
8 жыл бұрын
+waults Hi Sounds like if you had been shop foreman where I worked, I would still be there, and probably in line for your job on retirement. Your place is run like it should be. We regularly got the "do as you are told or there is 3 other dealerships in this town looking for mechanics" speech! from my time being out of those 2 places there are none of the original mechanics left and I think the whole sales team has changed to. They were told to get sales, even if it meant selling something that wasn't quite what the customer needed to do his job. Basically they had to bullshit the customer to. Then we got sent out to try fix the issue and keep the customer happy, with a machine that we knew was never going to do his job right.
@waults
8 жыл бұрын
super6954 I use that line myself "there are several other dealerships looking for mechanics"..... "we only hire technicians" Be a pro or go somewhere else. The dealership I work for is the oldest and one of the most respected Cat dealers in the world. We were in business 15 yrs before Cat existed. I tell my guys they need to think they are going to be one of the best there ever was, otherwise find someplace that can live with second best employees.

just keep repairing , youre bound to get it right at the end might be better to take apart / check / clean the WHOLE transmission in one go so the broken parts dont damage the new parts , it will cost more time and gaskets but at least you get it done right the first time / get black greasy hands only once the only other way i can see being able to repair the trans in parts without taking the other parts out to at least inspect them is if there filterscreens between the sections stopping debree from floating between them in the shared oil

+Sporkamus Prime Yeah But this is a John Deere everybody I tell they wear out and cost money to fix just the same as every other color. tells me I don't know what I'm talking about, As I don't run one and I'm bias to other colors, I don't need to run them I fixed them for a few guys. 2 of those went to scrap last year as they were done beyond economical repair !. Well maybe this is another prime example of being right now to. I should direct the non believers to the OLF Channel L.O.L. The biggest problem Wes has now is he just got a new baler , and to add another tractor would be around $60.000 or more on top. That's a huge load of hay to sell and he's just had a bad year. it don't pencil out right now from what I see.
@super6954
8 жыл бұрын
+littlefarmingboy Hi you won't start a pissing match with me I don't have thousands to loose in this discussion L.O.L, I tell you what I know from different experiences to yours. I get out and see and hear about this stuff, over a very wide area through my work. The guy I used to drive for traded Them off, when he had to start spending big bucks on them at about 8-9000 hours for 64's and 74's his 2950 fell apart at 10.000. He's not the only one trading like that,or staying for the ride and fixing them with 0000's of repairs. one 10.000 hr 6420 round heres just had $15.000 spent on it recently and a few $5000 repairs before that. his is not the only tractor done that, or not been that old when the issues started and it left the yard . There are enough Deeres round here have exactly the same issues as any other color tractor with hyd, trans/front axle and the odd motor . I'm guessing you have been lucky or you don't work them hard like Wes or guys round here do for the higher hours. The older models are starting to give big problems like 40 series up to. but they are getting up at around 15- 17.000 hours and are entitled to give problems at those hours for that age and hard work. they are from days when stuff was actually built to last!. Look at this 7410 wes has, he's on second time round for some of the trans work at 14.000 hours, and Wes is good on maintenance. if that tractor was that good it shouldn't of been touched from what you say ;-) Don't get caught in the trap that the only company that can build a tractor is Deere, some guys are now changing color round here from Green and yellow,and are happy the 64 guy got a Massey and the Deere sits more now, he said he can't afford to use it or get out of it either without a loss. A local Deere mechanic refers to all the newer stuff as the plastic ranges, and not in a good way. He said that while standing in the shop at work, so he's not impressed with some of them either he fixes.

I have an 1983 zetor 6045 4wd thats got 6500hours on it but they are slow zetor hours so its more like 10,000 normal hours, it got some shit on its way in its driveline, when driving back or forth sometimes its like something is slipping in and catching up briefly and one time pulling a trailer with a 4 tons milling lathe it was jumping over some gears or something. just waiting for it to just completely give out and i will then cry xD pulling that apart will be a nightmare. it got frontloader frame that goes all the way to the back hence it has mounts for a back hoe. all that must come off before starting to search for the problem :O luckily its only a high/low with 5 fronn and rev gears so its no advanced finicky mechanics, may be a chipped tooth somewhere or worn splines ??
