A long time ago, in a kingdom called Babylon, there lived a man named Daniel. Daniel was very wise and good. He loved God and prayed to Him every day. Because Daniel was so wise, the king, Darius, liked him very much and made him an important leader in the kingdom.
Some other leaders were jealous of Daniel and wanted to get rid of him. They knew that Daniel prayed to God three times a day, so they came up with a sneaky plan. They went to King Darius and said, "Oh King, make a new law that says for the next 30 days, everyone must pray only to you. If anyone prays to anyone else, they should be thrown into the lions' den." The king liked the idea and made it a law.
Daniel heard about the new law, but he continued to pray to God just as he always did. The jealous leaders saw Daniel praying and quickly went to tell the king. "Daniel is breaking your new law!" they said. The king was very sad because he liked Daniel, but he had to follow the law he had made.
So, Daniel was thrown into a den filled with hungry lions. Before they sealed the den with a big stone, King Darius said to Daniel, "May your God, whom you serve continually, rescue you!"
That night, the king couldn't eat or sleep because he was so worried about Daniel. Early the next morning, he hurried to the lions' den and called out, "Daniel, has your God been able to rescue you from the lions?"
To the king's amazement, Daniel replied, "Yes, O king! My God sent His angel, and He shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in His sight. Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, O king."
King Darius was overjoyed and ordered that Daniel be lifted out of the lions' den. Daniel didn't have a single scratch on him because he trusted in God. The king then made a new law that everyone in his kingdom should respect and honor the God of Daniel, for He is the living God who rescues and saves.
And that's the story of how God protected Daniel in the lions' den. It shows us that God is always with us and can protect us, no matter how scary things might seem.
