lol'd but really the options in the US are terrible. Our "culture" is so mixed up there is no solid idea of refinement. Women who look good will often have no morals or any mindset for family. Others might have great bodies but ink and dress it with insanity. But then if you go for a church girl then you might have to dial back a lot of your interests. That's a big compromise but it's the best you'll get imo.

I'm with you on like 90% of what you said. Before even coming here, I was hip to the whole dating scene and the nutty stereotypes, like the idea that just 'cause you're from a Western country, girls will instantly fall for you. I've chatted with some long-timers around here, and they mentioned that 20 or 25 years ago, it was kinda easier to woo girls as a Westerner - they were more open and curious. I guess the increased competition (since there are more of us here now) and the crap stereotypes spread by some lame sexpats and weebs hasn't helped. Personally, I've been good with scoring dates 'cause I'm still young, hit the gym a lot, and care about myself in general and just not about looks. Plus, I always try to be genuine and respectful to every single girl I've met, unlike some of these obnoxious, big-headed foreigners I've bumped into. Even with my so-so Japanese, I've managed to catch more attention than my money and time can manage rn. But when it comes to the real deal relationships? Different story. It's hard to vibe with someone on a deeper level, mostly 'cause of the cultural differences and folks here seeming a bit emotionally "checked out". Japan's got a lot going for it in terms of living conditions. But as a foreigner, you've gotta hustle and work on yourself to bring something special to the table, whether that's for a potential keeper of a partner or just life in general.

I feel like the real deal relationship thing is the same when dating Chinese girls in the US also. You go on a date and maybe you have a good time but the connection usually just isn't there. The cultural divide is big enough that if you have options it doesn't make sense to force a relationship with someone who isn't completely on the same page as you. Also I've been told by several dates that they think Americans are dumb which is starting to get a little like, yeah I get it. I'm sure not everyone thinks that, and honestly they have a point in some ways, and there are probably just as many Americans with that kind generalization based perspective but it is something that stands out as someone who grew up in western culture.

@@yungjamez312 yeah I think it has something to do with the way the different cultures study though. Like in America it is cringe to be a try hard even if you are dedicated, so you try to play down the effort. I don't get that impression from eastern cultures but I could be wrong. It seems more pragmatic in the east. People who don't try hard there are losers. But there's a good amount of misplaced confidence for try hards in any culture.

Lived all over East Asia for 7 years and was swamped to the point of being stalked constantly. You look homosexual and like you have a slight case of down syndrome. Try changing those two first. If you aren't getting asked to be touched, or invited to eat and drink, or offered to be cooked for, or offered to be shown around as a tall white guy in a 3rd world country then something about you looks off. The amount of tall white guys i saw in my time living abroad just being kept around as fashion statements was insane. It was so bad that 3rd worlders would settle for Russians and central Asians and even Slavs that barely spoke English who would PRETEND to be white. If Russians and Slavs can get away with it then you know you've got some big problems. Hell even getting jobs is applied the same, Eastern Europeans and Russians that are tall and white passing pretending to speak English and be from the 1st world just to get jobs.

You say that the street interview videos cherry pick only the positive interviews but I would say it is something entirely different. The reason japanese women say on camera that they would date a foreigner even though in reality they would not do so is because in Japan people do not want to lose their face under any circumstances and the general way of living there is to avoid conflict. So what japanese people say and think is entirely different. Japanese people are probably the most polite people in the world but what they say about the gaijin once he has left the restaurant is a different story. Regarding dating in Japan as a foreigner: The bigger the gap between your behavior and theirs, the harder it is, especially if you are unwilling to adapt to their culture and way of doing things. You come across as slightly frustrated but try to see it from a positive light: 15% is not a bad number, you just have to play the game until statistics work out for you. In the US more women might be willing to date you, but then you got to weed out the gold diggers. Enjoy your time there and avoid drugs no matter what, the drug policy there is harsh to say the least but you probably already know that.

One thing I noticed, being fluent in Japanese (JPLT 1, etc.), is that Japanese men who are good conversationalists, are 10x better than me at entertaining women. I'd have to work very hard to match them. The more I was exposed to Japanese society, the more I felt rather incompetent socially. I'm of course on the spectrum, which doesn't help. I don't like the idea of having to entertain a woman either. I believe soul mates probably don't exist, because women are wired differently from men. Women who weren't willing to monkey-branch to the enemy after losing a war, were also murdered. Women have the ability to jump from one man to another, even to the man who killed her husband. I think the word "misogynist" is politicized and meaningless, but I'm starting to dislike female nature. In any case, not trying to sabotage anyone's fun, but I'm interested in people staying safe and avoiding crazy women, divorce rape, etc. The men who seldom get divorced, are rich men, because they remain the best she can probably get for most of her life. And she knows that. But at that point he's just staying married to, strictly speaking, an opportunist. A golddigger. If he's willing to accept female nature, he can still have a productive relationship with her his entire life. Hopefully they have children, because at least his woman will love his children, and then they have something meaningful in common and he has a reason to keep supporting her.

Most inward focused country in the developed world. Most Japanese people don't need anything from the outside. Most Japanese people don't want anything from the outside. Unless you "score" a gaijin hunter, you won't get far without knowing the language, knowing the culture, and being a cut above the rest of the foreigners in the country. Last part actually isn't hard because most Westerners here are scrawny or obese. But, you're still fighting against the locals who are at least fairly healthy. Theeeeeeen, you have to get over the in-group hurdle within the in-group. Most people in the country hang out with people from work, their major, or a club; and they'll go to places that appeal to whatever niche those entail. Theeeeeeen, you have to get over the work culture if you actually find someone willing to date or hang out because it'll be a miracle if she actually picks you for her blue moon time off. Not impossible. You do have to know and respect the situation.

Preach brother. I was honestly going into this video skeptical, since I'm a pretty big lefty, but nah, you nailed it. As someone who has been living here for 5 years, have N1, speak Japanese daily for work, the mindset of "japanese women will fall for you for being white" is complete and utter bullshit. My thing with the videos of "women agree they would date a foreigner", it's not that they're lying or anything, it's just like you get a camera in front of your face, and asked that question point blank, how could you say No unless you already have prior prejudices (which, you know, racists can fuck themselves). Like others have mentioned, in the end of the day, the cultural is too different from the west, which can cause a lot of people to reconsider. And they're totally not wrong to feel that way. How many times have you heard stories about japanese/westerner getting hitched too early and then getting a divorce over communication issues or cultural differences. I'll share some of my experiences. I'm also pretty introverted, but have had gone on some dates. Some things I'll mention, dating apps are pretty hard. It's flooded with too many fuckboys traveling looking for "their tour guide ;)". Even my good looking guy friends struggle on Bumble because, most people see non-asian person, and go "nope, tourist, bye". There is also a tendency for guys to rely heavily on google translate to communicate with gals, which ends up coming off as a bait and switch to women (from my japanese gal friends' experiences). Another annoying thing, you'll run into women where the date goes well, and then they ghost you. I know quite a few people who've had the same experience. My baseless theory is just some women want to try "the foreigner experience", but then go "hmm, nah not for me", which I can't blame them because of what I said about the cultural differences. Speaking Japanese well will get you attention for sure, but it's on you to keep the conversation going. I feel like most gaijin hunters run away when you start speaking good Japanese. That being said, I feel really uncomfortable when someone is on me because I'm "strictly" a foreigner, like you said, it feels so superficial. Here is my honest advice, try to date someone who at least speaks some english or other foreigners who speak Japanese. Some of my best experiences were other foreigners, shit just didn't work out in the end. For Japanese women, if they speak some English, they've probably studied abroad, which means they're pretty open minded and aware of the cultural differences, and will be tolerant of you when you commit a cultural faux pas. Big agree with trying to get into the Japanese underground/art/music scene. You'll meet really cool and open minded people. I'm a pretty big lefty and felt immediately comfortable around these types of people. Met my current partner through a friend who's in the art scene.

If you can’t get dates in your home country then don’t expect miracles in Japan. There are more gaijin than ever in Japan and due to social media these days foreigners aren’t nearly as special as they think they are. All that being said, your odds will be much better outside the big cities where there are fewer foreigners. I live in southern Japan and all the guys I know that live here have never had any problems finding cool girls.
@hananokuni2580

My guess is that Japanese women will want to "fool around" with a foreigner, especially one who is handsome and versed in Japanese language and culture, but not too many will be keen on marrying one.

A week in Tokyo is the perfect amount imo. You just have to know what to do. And 2 weeks in other cities sounds great. If it’s in your route, definitely spend 2 days in Shimoda, Shizuoka. Lesser known, quiet, not too far from Tokyo. However it’s more of a beach/summer area but could be great any time I suppose. Maybe look into it

True however I’m shooting it to lead into either 1) more dates (more money) or 2) a love hotel for the night which costs money. And idk if you live in Japan but generally the girls here expect far nicer dates than American girls from my experience
