I saw him in a Chicago bar in the 90s. He was old, and had to sit the whole performance. At one point, he was heckled by some dude at a table who didn’t know any better. Coe stopped cold in the middle of the song and glared at the kid and said in a flat tone, “I’ll whip you, boy.” The kid shut up, and the show went on.

He played a dive bar called Club 190 (on US190) a few miles outside of Covington, Louisiana one night. Some drunk heckled him and DIDN’T shut up. David got some freestyles in him. It's crazy how similar some rap and hip hop is to his style. Although being black, only reason why I'm not offended cause I choose not to be. I choose to see the good and him, and use his creativity to my advantage. It's crazy how much misunderstanding and hate I see in these comments. But there's always going to be that, as me and my comments become the example of which, I'd like to see in the world. #GoodVibeTribe

Corey Stuckey I think his use of the word is metaphorically sung....not with any prejudice associated with it. That said, I'm not a DAC fan, and have only heard this song a couple times in my life and just stumbled across it here today. Glad you recognize that.
@LisaCupcake
9 жыл бұрын
Corey Stuckey I know DAC has a lot of racist lyrics, but in this particular song, the phrase "working like a n****r" is actually an old saying that means "busting your butt doing hard work for little pay." It probably wasn't even intended to be racist. That's just how some people worded it back in the day.

This song completely tells where I came from in the hills of Arkansas. Because of the work ethic instilled in me, due to those conditions, I was able to embrace my love of music, and education, and work my ass off. I eventually earned a free college education. I now have a master's degree and have taught at the University of Wisconsin! 🤣🤣 I'm now almost retirement age. Point is; Giver 'er hell and stick to what is right and good. Don't be selfish. Live to give your talents to next generation. It's not about you, rather the ones you meet!

Well said my friend... Well said.. Im a year late to this comment but had to reply! The problem with the world today...well this country at least is most younger ones dont wanna work they want everything for free.. Ive worked my ass off since I was 14, my first job was construction doing manual labor for minimal pay and I busted my ass for every penny.. As I worked my way up the ladder the work got easer some and the pay got better. When I turned 18 I was part owner of that company. Last year I sold that company for hefty sum of money since I had a lot of contracts, and I retired at the age of 40. Hard work pays off!!

I met him at a dive bar in manhattan back in 2002 6 months after 9/11. My mom was a nurse who drove 8 hours after the first plane hit. To help. My brother was an iron worker who went the few weeks post 9/11 to help clean up. But me and my wife wanted to pay our respects. So we drove out and there’s a bar called “Kenny’s castaways” on bleaker st. We took our flowers and said a prayer at the site and then went bar hopping for the night. And in the corner of this five bar there he was sitting there. Bought him a drink and said hello. He was a very nice man. I’m native. Seneca to be exact. After we sat down he came over and hung out for almost a hour just BS’in. It was a night I’ll never forget.
