Man, Roth was on top of the world back then. Unfortunately I was too young to go to concerts when he was on tour for that album. I'd love to see professionally filmed footage of that tour.

This was a great show. My 2 buddies and I went to this show Winnipeg for that tour. We went to the show in my 1977 Ford Econline shaggon wagon and met up with some lovely ladies. Fun time ensued :)

Every member of that band was a superstar at that time and still today! Vai, Sheehan & Bissonette. DLR had a killer lineup and a few years with those guys.

Actually it was the DLR band that made them superstars...up until then they were all still in clubs...prior to this I had seen Vai in Alcatraz which played the Palace in LA...he was still virtually unknown, everyone went to see Yngwie, but he had quit about a week ago and Steve stepped in, and this was Billy's second band after Talas who was only known in NY...they were making names for themselves in music but it was Dave that made them household names

@@henryrojas2000thank you for revising this !! Dave was the platform for Steve , bill, and greg to launch from! Vai has always reiterated time and time again that DLR was his last and most important “Mentor.” Dave really pushed vai and the rest of them to become the Superstars we know them as today . Amazing band shake they were only ALL together for Eat Em And Smile. Love Roths next few two albums as well especially A lil Ain’t enough

The man had the vocals still at this time , sure wish he had stayed with VH a couple more albums they were back on top with 1984 , and I just think what great tunes they woulda put out while at top of their game. Love VH

I saw this tour and the VH songs were the weakest element. You could tell Steve was trying not to be disrespectful to the work of someone he deeply admired by straying too far from what EVH, but at the same time he hated trying to copy anyone. It was a "can't win" situation. Thankfully the new DLR songs were absolutely amazing on this tour, particularly Ladies Night in Buffalo.

Steve Vai was excellent on the VH material, in particular on "Everybody Wants Some." Right before the solo he spins the guitar around his body and sets it down on the side riser that they'd hop on to play to the people in the partial view section. He then plays the solo on his guitar like a piano a la Jeff Healey style. That is a firm grasp of the material. They played Cincinnati ten days before this Detroit show. I saw VH in 1984 at the same venue and it too was spectacular. Steve is a more technical guitarist whereas Eddie played with more feel. Maybe that is what you were hearing?
