u piece of shits. Despite opening the batting the legend Boycott averaged 58.76 in 4th innings of a test match, way better than ur overrated Kallis. Waugh averaged 25 in 4th innings. Dravid averaged 40. Kallis and Dravid averaged this after facing inferior attacks on flat pitches of 2000s with a SR of 40 and 42 in 4th innings and overall SR of 42 and 45. Gavaskar is the real deal, just like Geoffrey opened the innings, averaged 58.25 in 4th innings.

Well said! There is so much odious bad press against Geoff Boycott.He might not be the bloke you would invite over for a drink.His social skills might be bit blunt but the fact remains that he possessed incredible levels of concentration and could bat for hours and thereupon demoralize even the best of bowling attacks.Doesn't matter if it were Lillie & Thommo or the Fearsome Quartet of West Indies.

Brilliant! But Sir Geoffrey was being disingenuous - he wasn't injured, he had opted out of Test cricket at that point. Bumble was picked for the 2nd and 3rd Tests against India in 1974 after Boycott had been dismissed for 6 and 10 in the 1st Test, falling to the medium pacer Eknath Solkar. Boycott subsequently made himself unavailable for that winter's tour of Australia despite desperate entreaties from the then chairman of selectors, Alec Bedser.

Why are so many people on here running down Boycott. Truly great player. Played for England through 3 decades and was the best batsman in the team more often than not. David Lloyd is a great story teller and commentator. Why can't people just enjoy the story for what it is, instead of using this as a slag off Boycott opportunity. Boycott by the way never ducked anyone. Scored a hundred against the West Indies in the West Indies in 1980. Pull bits out of that!

i wonder how Boycott would have fared had he toured Australia in 74-5. I used to agree with your opinion that he always went where the pacemen weren't in the mid 70s but as for the 74-5 tour no one could ever have predicted the rise of Thomson and it wasn't clear at that point before the tour whether Lillee would play, Had he not scored a century in the final match of the 73-4 tour thus saving the captaincy of Denness he probably would have gone to Australia as captain. The irony
@evanaskew6652
7 жыл бұрын
I think Boycott could have gone either way. He tanked against Lille and Massie in 72 and against Hogg and Hurst in 78-79. But he got runs against Lille, Dymock and Pascoe in 79-80 and Lillee and Alderman in 81. He filled his boots also in 77 but that was after missing the first two tests by which point the Australian lineup must have being somewhat demoralised by the drama with wsc. PLus they were minus Lillee and Thommo who was still a great bowler was coming back from the shoulder injury.
