I wanted to hear more about the London Tube Network

Well you are in luck! There's a certain Jago Hazzard who makes videos (mostly) about the London Tube Network history, and there's Geoff Marshall who makes videos about the British Rail Network and current London Transport Network. Enjoy! 😁

The London Underground (also known simply as the Underground or by its nickname the Tube) is a rapid transit system serving Greater London and some parts of the adjacent home counties of Buckinghamshire, Essex and Hertfordshire in England. The Underground has its origins in the Metropolitan Railway, the world's first underground passenger railway. Opened on 10 January 1863, it is now part of the Circle, District, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines. The first line to operate underground electric traction trains, the City & South London Railway in 1890, is now part of the Northern line. The network has expanded to 11 lines, and in 2020/21 was used for 296 million passenger journeys, making it one of the world's busiest metro systems. The 11 lines collectively handle up to 5 million passenger journeys a day and serve 272 stations. The system's first tunnels were built just below the ground, using the cut-and-cover method; later, smaller, roughly circular tunnels-which gave rise to its nickname, the Tube-were dug through at a deeper level. The system serves 272 stations and has 250 miles (400 km) of track. Despite its name, only 45% of the system is under the ground: much of the network in the outer environs of London is on the surface. In addition, the Underground does not cover most southern parts of Greater London, and there are only 33 stations south of the River Thames. The early tube lines, originally owned by several private companies, were brought together under the Underground brand in the early 20th century, and eventually merged along with the sub-surface lines and bus services in 1933 to form London Transport under the control of the London Passenger Transport Board (LPTB). The current operator, London Underground Limited (LUL), is a wholly owned subsidiary of Transport for London (TfL), the statutory corporation responsible for the transport network in London. As of 2015, 92% of operational expenditure is covered by passenger fares. The Travelcard ticket was introduced in 1983 and Oyster card, a contactless ticketing system, in 2003. Contactless bank card payments were introduced in 2014, the first such use on a public transport system. The LPTB commissioned many new station buildings, posters and public artworks in a modernist style. The schematic Tube map, designed by Harry Beck in 1931, was voted a national design icon in 2006 and now includes other transport systems besides the Underground, such as the Docklands Light Railway, London Overground, Thameslink, the Elizabeth line, and Tramlink. Other famous London Underground branding includes the roundel and the Johnston typeface, created by Edward Johnston in 1916.

I now have a mental image of David Mitchell Naruto-running towards a train while wearing a bobble hat (or a _toque_ as we would call it here in Canada). I shall cherish it forever.

He winked at Lee when he was talking about keyless entry and when Lee said it was hard to get into Oyster HQ and David came back wilt , you have to get passed Pearl on reception. A great reply which Lee loved. Check it out .

I can't believe that even David didn't know the Dumbledore reference. I always thought he was the type to know *about* characters in well-known books/movies but not read or watch the full thing. I thought he was that type of intellectual - know who Darth Vader is from Star Wars, but only watch the first 15 or 20 minutes of the first film and so on...

Considering this was uploaded a year ago supposedly and has so little views and the few comments are recent, I’m assuming this video was privated for a long ass time because you made a better wilty dedicated channel than the BBC could ever hope to have lol.

Not sure why the sudden surge, but I can say that this channel’s been around for ages in Canada. It may be that they just unlocked it for a specific region, though.

This clip was definitely already up on the channel, I've 100% seen it here before. A few of this channel's videos from around this time (maybe all the ones from this specific episode?) seem to have been "reset" such that all the views and comments were removed and the algorithm is now recommending them as if they were new uploads. They've also been given more simplistic titles than they had before. Very strange indeed - I wonder if this is a new KZitem feature, and if so, what is Jon's goal in using it in this way?

Imo David made this much harder for himself😭 wouldn’t it have been easier saying the hat got stuck when he was leaving?? I feel like trying to sell ‘I ran headfirst at the train at exactly that moment’ is much more difficult than ‘it was busy, it was a squeeze to get off the train, and the door closed on the hat as I was pushing my way onto the platform’

The dumbledore bit is a great showcase of their teamwork being so well refined between the three of them. As David stumbles to come up with a funny response, Lee recognises that and interjects with 'I'm there for you Rob' to give David a beat to form 'I thought I was having a stroke.' It's really quite amazing to see how well they manage a banter/adversarial setup but are actually working together to make it work. Amazing chemistry as always.

When was the last time David or Lee actually told a true story on the show? I'm not saying I want to mess with the great chemistry they have, but at this point it feels like they're just given absurd, obvious lies so that the audience can have fun watching them clown.

How you know it was a lie is he lost a bauble hat, that's it. If true it wouldn't have been that silly enough for David to recount later. But someone coming up with these, gets David to wear a bauble hat. Pair it with the wit of the comedians. Entertaining enough. Also James is right, no one runs like that. Would have made more sense if the doors clothed on him getting off the train.
