Tbh, most of DW fans liked Moffat. But as always, while lovers don't say that they like Moffat, haters say they hate him. Leading to an overall view that makes people think they're only a few to love Moffat. Same goes for series 11 and Jodie. Some people keep complaining because life is hard and they didn't liked it, but just look at the TV score and critics : never been higher.

"every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don't always soften the bad things but visa versa the bad things don't spoil the good things or make them unimportant" I don't know how anyone could watch that (or whatever the actual words were) and not find it incredibly moving. What a performance and what an episode.

I'm so glad to see "The girl who waited" high on this list. I didn't appreciate it at first, but after a second viewing and some personal relevance on the subject, it left me absolutely floored. The cruel reality of 11 slamming the door on old Amy broke my heart. We always heard "the doctor lies" but here it is on full display in such an awful way. Easily one of my favorites ever.

Completely agree with Eleventh Hour being number 1. The Moffat era and specifically Eleven, Amy and Rory (+ River) is my absolute favourite. That era of the show will also always be special because it introduced me to Karen Gillan who is my favourite actor. Moffat get's so much hate in the fandom but I'm so thankful for him. There's a quote he said when promoting DotD which I absolutely adore "When they made this particular hero, they didn't give him a gun--they gave him a screwdriver to fix things. They didn't give him a tank or a warship or an x-wing fighter--they gave him a box from which you can call for help. And they didn't give him a superpower or pointy ears or a heat-ray--they gave him an extra HEART. They gave him two hearts! And that's an extraordinary thing. There will never come a time when we don't need a hero like the Doctor.”

MOFFAT ERA of Doctor Who is also MY favourite of the entire shows history yes i adored the RTD era with 9 and 10, and the spin offs in that era that went into the Moff era... and also my love for Pertwee's era...... BUT this is for me PEAK Doctor Who... and now with series 11 i really yearn for THESE types of stories... it is powerful stuff in that i adored the majority of this era and miss it.... my top 10 - 1- Vincent and the Doctor 2 - Heaven Sent 3 - Pandorica Opens/Big Bang 4 - Eleventh Hour 5 - Day of the Doctor 6 - Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone 7 - Flatline 8 - World Enough and Time/Doctor Falls 9 - The Doctor's Wife 10 - Impossible Astronaut/Day of The Moon there's so, so so MANY many many more! but these are pretty much the top 10 stories i adore for many many reasons... but the fact there's so many that don't make my top 10 that i adore just shows how tricky it is ;-)

@@terminatrix92 Oh I agree. In fact, 12 is my Doctor. I didn't mean people who felt differently about that exact regeneration. I meant anyone whose favorite was followed by one they weren't very into. That could be someone whose Doctor was 9 and wasn't fond of 10. Or who preferred 12 and aren't currently into 13. It's kind of lucky to lose your favorite to who ends up becoming your next favorite.

@@CharmingNewSociety Like me with 12 into 13... Whitaker is good but the character development seems to have stalled. With each incarnation before there was a genuine progression. Thats why I liked 12 so much. It was like all the pretence of the previous Doctor was stripped away and Capaldi finally confronted everything the character had been avoiding; this was reflected in his age, the performance and many of the stories. It felt accumulative and mature. But with this latest series its like the Doctor has regressed. I thought that the Doctor becoming a woman would be a new lease on life for the character, but rather than have the Doctor reflect on her change Chibnall skipped over it. To make the show more accessible he simplified the character back down to basic quips and without a strong story arc series 11 just felt shallow by comparison.
@huntress666

That would be, for sure I think. Of the NuWho doctors, Smith was my least favorite, but Capaldi became my favorite, outshining Eccleston, so I was certainly relieved to have that happen. I'm more just excited to see what happens with regeneration tho, just bc I want to see what happens next, lmao.

The Moffat era, and particularly 11’s era, really is/was a special time for this show. It’s when I discovered and fell in love with the show, and when I discovered and fell in love with your videos. Here’s to a new day with the Chibnall era, 13, and beyond, and more of your beautiful, emotional reactions along the way. That said, here’s my arbitrary thoughts on your picks yet again. *Time of The Doctor:* Eh, it’s ok. *World Enough And Time/Doctor Falls:* Really enjoy part 1. Am always bored through part 2. *Day of the Doctor:* In a word, spectacular. Great character study and a perfect end to the Time War through line. *Angels Take Manhattan:* Don’t care much for this one. The ending is powerful but the story up to that point is kind of a slog. *Husbands of River Song:* Still prefer A Christmas Carol, but this is really a good time. *Pandorica/Big Bang:* Ditto everything you said in this section. Best finale for the best season. *Vincent and the Doctor:* Easily an all time great. *The Girl Who Waited:* I don’t even have words for this one ;even though I used words to write a whole review of it, but still). Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous story. *A Good Man Goes To War:* there’s so much I love about this one, but I can’t I’m good conscience put it above some of the stories you have lower on the list. It’s all splitting hairs at this point though. *The Eleventh Hour:* Wow, I didn’t even realize you hadn’t put this one up yet. This IS the best opening story that any Doctor has ever had, and that’s really all that needs to be said.

It's been great to hear you discussing every episode in depth. Thanks for making these. :) I'm glad to hear that 'Doctor Who' has helped you in down times. There is a beauty to so much of it that encourages positivity. I've found it helpful when dealing with loss. [I'll preface my list by saying I find it difficult to judge across the two eras of Doctor's so for this, I roughly ranked the Eleventh Doctor's episodes and then took a ranking I did of the Twelfth Doctor's episodes a while ago and tried to merge them together. Therefore, don't take the ranking across eras to mean much (well really, don't take any of this to mean much. Rankings are fun but arbitrary as far as critique is concerned). Also, I should say that I've considered some multi-episode stories as one but others as separate because the episodes feel significantly different. Moffat has a tendency with 2-parters to go in a mostly new direction in the second part so it feels unfair to judge them as a whole. As a result of that, my ranking comes out to 78 places so I'll split mine into proportionate quarters also. All of that boring stuff said. Here's my ranking:] *19 - Face the Raven* (I like the concepts but I think it’s mostly executed in a way that would be forgettable if not for the ending) *18 - Time Heist* (I didn’t find it as fun to rewatch but I quite liked it the first time around. There are a few flaws that stick out to me when watching but it’s good fun, campy sci-fi) *17 - The Caretaker* (I find a lot of the character moments to feel forced in Series 8 but I think it’s mostly done quite well in this episode. And the sci-fi plot is minimalist but doesn’t feel rushed; the villain still feels like a considerable threat and plays as much of a part as it needs to) *16 - Flatline* (if more side characters had personality and the resolution was explained, it‘d be perfect. As is, it’s still pretty good) *15 - Robot of Sherwood* (stupidly flawed at times and I think it’s a shame that its sci-fi concepts and plot aren’t more developed but it’s very fun) *14 - Amy’s Choice* (great concept. Mostly great execution. It’s a shame Amy and Rory’s relationship wasn’t developed before this point so that the dilemma this story is based around could feel weightier. And the blind faith in committing suicide/assisted suicide/murder if your loved one dies isn’t the best of logical decisions) *13 - Vampires of Venice* (I’m really not a fan of the handling of Amy and Rory’s relationship throughout Series 5 as you can imagine by the previous pick but aside from that element, I think this episode is a great, fun watch) *12 - The Zygon Invasion/The Zygon Inversion* (illogical at times but enjoyable overall) *11 - Hide* (a very underrated episode. I didn’t realise the first time around but everything about it is very good and unlike the struggling episodes around it, it doesn’t feel weighed down by the fact that it’s a ‘Doctor Who’ episode. It doesn’t feel the need to jump back into the Doctor being zany with cool, quirky music. It’s just a horror film that the Doctor stumbles into with thematic depth and an effective twist. Plus great set design and special/visual effects) *10 - The Rebel Flesh/The Almost People* (another underrated one. The first episode is a little bit slow but the concept is great, the characters are deep and the performances are nuanced. I think it’s brilliant) *9 - The Hungry Earth/Cold Blood* (the other underrated one of the Eleventh Doctor's era. Similarly, it has great concepts, deep characters and fantastic special and visual effects) *8 - Last Christmas* (awesome sci-fi plot with awesome character plot. As someone who often has an issue with the way Clara is written, I think she’s fantastic in this episode and wish she were written in this down-to-Earth, believable way every episode) *7 - The Husbands of River Song* (a lighthearted, fun action plot with again, a surprisingly well-written and performed character plot. As someone who often as an issue with the way River is written, I think she’s fantastic in this episode and… you get the idea) *6 - The Doctor’s Wife* (similar to a few below it on this list, it’s a perfect combination of plot and character exploration. It’s a story that could easily be terrible as the premise is so fan-fictiony but it works because of the way it is executed) *5 - The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon* (a lot of ideas and not all of it is perfect. I think the threat of the Silence could be better established - what is it they’re doing wrong and why does the Doctor feel justified in committing genocide against them? However, what works is particularly great and it’s an amazing start to a story arc) *4 - The Pandorica Opens* (similar to the previous, it throws a lot of ideas at you and it just about makes sense. The second part lets the overall story down which is why I feel the need to separate them but this part, on its own, is awesome) *3 - World Enough and Time* (another amazing concept with great character work and beginning of series resolution before the following episode undermines it) *2 - Vincent and the Doctor* (perfect. I’m tired and it’s been said before so I won’t reiterate) *1 - Heaven Sent* (same as previous)

And then the theme song started and I got chills and, well, that was that. :P I also love A Good Man Goes to War, for all the reasons you stated. I've lost count of how many times I've watched it and it just never gets old. :)

The great strength of Dr Who is the sheer variety of episodes - it pulls in a massive audience but everyone has different favourites. Most of your list wouldn't be anywhere near my top 10 of this era - but then the ones we do agree on work to bring together 2 people with obviously very different tastes - and we can comfortably sit down and say we are both fans of Dr Who. My list would be something like this (not in any particular order) - The Day of the Doctor Flatline Hide The Crimson Horror The Doctors Wife The Girl Who Waited The Beast Below The God Complex The Husbands of River Song Smile ☺ Although I think there maybe one or two others I'm forgetting about - and some that on a different day might make the list but today just miss out.

Well, I was wrong about your number one. Even my backup guess for number one was wrong. Although I do think it's a good choice. :) I like hearing you talk about a lot of these episodes with your current perspective. It's heartwarming. Makes me wonder what else we'll see for the rest of Doctor Who December. I'm hoping for a review of the Doctor Who/Star Trek TNG graphic novel you were sent a while back.

With how much you ended up loving Matt & Eleven, it's still hilarious watching your reaction to The Eleventh Hour, when he was still "the new guy" and your comments about him spitting out the food and throwing the plate outside. lol

I’ve watched The Eleventh Hour the most of any episode. I agree it is the best introduction to a new Doctor. As much as I wanted David Tennant to keep being the, Doctor Matt Smith’s performance knocked it out of the park. Next followed by the Day of the Doctor my two favorite Doctors together how could you go wrong.

Eleventh Hour really is incredible, it's not my personal number one episode, but it's pretty close, and imo easily the best first episode any Doctor, modern or classic, has ever had, it instantly drew me in and made me invested in the new Doctor and companion, and was also just a great standalone story in general. My top 10 of Moffat's run 1. Heaven Sent 2. World Enough and Time/Doctor Falls 3. Eleventh Hour 4. Vincent and the Doctor 5. Mummy on the Orient Express 6. Day of the Doctor 7. Flatline 8. Christmas Carol 9. Husbands of River Song 10. Listen

G'day. I hope your well, and Christmas is going well (I may even send you a drawing via PM on Instagram that I have in my head for a while) Anyway I love your picks, but some of my picks are slightly different to yours, but that is a great thing about the show, everyone's choices for their fav is different but also extremely fascinating. Anyway, going from what I have heard and read, Moffat had a very hard time leading up to The Day of the Doctor., as he had no Doctors and only Jenna contacted. He was stressed as. I agree with your analysis of Vincent and the Doctor, because someone who has suffered and sadly is still suffering from really bad confidence and mental health, especially at the time that it aired, it really had an effect on me, relating to it big time. This is especially the case as a creative who is struggling to get noticed or appreciated (which is still the case today), with trying to get a foot within the industry and getting knocked back all the time. I currently cry almost on a daily basis, really struggling to know what I am doing wrong and feeling helpless and worthless. As a creative in animation, graphical design, writing etc, its very hard to move forward and think positive about the future. Sorry about opening up, now for my top 10 Moffat episodes (Today anyway from my long term memories as I haven't watched many in quite some time.) 1. Heaven Sent 2. Day of the Doctor 3. The Eleventh Hour 4. The Zygon Invasion/ The Zygon Inversion 5. World Enough and Time/The Doctor Falls 6. Girl who Waited 7. The Doctor's Wife 8. Mummy on the Orient Express 9. The Name of the Doctor 10. The Magician Apprentice/The Witches Familiar

A worthy top ten but as for 25:05 and telling yourself you will love 11, you can't cross your own timeline, it could create a paradox and destroy the whole universe ;-) (not that its something the Dr hasn't fixed before). I enjoyed this and yes Rory saying "would you like me to repeat that" to the Cybermen at the start of "A good man goes to war", fantastic.

I'm an old fogey. I began watching Who in 1975. Tom Baker was, is, and always be Dr. Who for me. So it's no wonder that more than half of my top ten Whovian episodes concern #4 (with a couple more coming from the #5 era). I realize that you were sticking to the Moffat era. Everyone is a bit biased; everyone has their favorites. You really liked #11, obviously. I lean a bit more toward #10 myself, with #9 coming in a close second. Eccleston would probably been my favorite modern era Doctor if he had stuck around a bit longer. (Of course, Moffat wasn't involved with Eccleston and he was there for only part of the Tenant era.) I don't mean to sound critical of #11. Smith played the part really well and, as you point out, he was helped by very personable and capable companions.

Honestly 11th hour is probably the best first episode for a doctor better than a Christmas invasion, the women who fell to earth and to some extent Rose (even if the point was introducing the elements that make the doctor) and Deep breath (which I like but 11th hour is standalone and good introduction to who and really good)

I love this list, I couldn’t have placed better myself. I probably would also have Big Bang, good man and eleventh hour top three but probably reverse to Jess’ order. I was horrified at David tennant leaving, no one could ever be as good a doctor as him and I was going to hate the new doctor. By the time Eleven said “that must be an awfully scary crack on your wall” he was my new favourite and stayed my favourite and is still my favourite.

I've been a card carrying Doctor Who fan since the early 1980s (with memories of it going back to the the 70s). Even with that long history with the programme (and having seen most of the episodes now) The Eleventh Hour became my favourite and remains so. New Who Series 5 is my favourite ever season. I never really had a favourite Doctor or a favourite companion, they were all great in their own ways... That was until Amy and Eleven. In a way I rather regret that, as I want to feel that way again about all the Doctors and companions that came after (and even before) but I just don't. They're all good but they aren't Amy and Eleven. Still, I can always go back and feel the sheer joy of those days thanks to the Blu-rays. Series five took my fandom to new heights that even as a fan of 30 years (back then) I didn't realise was possible.
