Daz cares so much about everyone, it breaks my heart. Mental health is something society definitely has normalized way too much, and people only help those who are on the last thread. As someone who struggles with mental health, my school councillor threw me into a school program to help with my anxiety. (It didn't, it only made it worse.) It's been over 20 weeks since I last saw her, and my health has only gotten worse. She won't see me because I don't have a serious problem, because I don't wear a rope on my neck or have recent scars on my body.

So well said Daz. As someone with my own mental issues, and thankfully loads of mental support here in Australia, all of that was spot on and I totally agree with places investing in more mental health support to tackle underlying issues. What you said about addictions - the fact that they only deal with the surface issues - was an eye opener. It's like if a doctor told someone to just be happier rather than evaluate WHY they don't feel normal in the first place. It's stupid! Thanks for the insightful video, always love your content and happy to have watched a new video before bed!! Have a good one 🎉

You are very right on the mental health system in the UK. I went to my doctor about my long term depression getting worse and turning more nasty. He asked me had I been thinking about svicide or planning it. I told him that yes, I had been seriously thinking about it and considering methods. He said that he was referring me as urgent to the community psych team. Yeahhhh, we are around twenty years later and I NEVER got a call or heard anything else about it. Luckily I scared myself by admitting it and worked on my problems to help myself. But I got a little insight into how people can fall through the cracks.

I'm in university for Psychology, and you are absolutely correct. There is always some kind of underlying cause for things like this, (whether it be from abuse, rape, bullying, etc.) or a mental condition like depression, Borderline Personality Disorder, etc. These types of trauma are very hard to reverse, like you were saying with pedophiles. Making a TV show out of it also doesn't help the situation. It can make her feel like it's okay because they are glamorizing her addiction. It's also about being control, like you said before. Drinking blood may be her coping mechanism. You were also right about how there isn't space strong enough to take people seriously unless someone witnesses them trying to take their own life. I think that's, unfortunately, the reality we live in. Just having support and proper help (maybe even forcing help because of the dangerous situation, as well as talking to her to figure out the situation) will help her down the road to recovery.

This is one of the many reasons why I am studying to be a psychologist and why I advocate for better mental health care. Mental health is so often overlooked or even misdiagnosed so as to profit drug companies. It is not taken seriously enough and it leads to harm, either to the person affected by mental illness or others (example would be mass shootings). Money is all that matters to these corporations and it's sad and extremely damaging. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Yeah, he makes you actually understand and feel bad for the person because they could've gone through horrible stuff that added up to this other than just laughing at her because she's weird, Daz is literally the best ❤

You are the most wholesome KZitemr to me. I feel this as someone with mental illness, people would only see me as doing this on purpose instead of just helping me.

16:02 I was S/A by my grandfather when I was 5 to when I was 11 so I can relate to this but I do have one thing to say. “Take the world by storm whether it’s good day, a bad day, a holiday, a funeral, no matter what there’ll always be something happy to hold onto”

Daz, you are a wonderful speaker, and I hear you. I am a restrictive eater and sometimes over exercise. It felt like it was the only control I had in my life, as everything else was controlled by someone else, whether it being family members or by a boyfriend. It's also a coping mechanism, as I have trauma from my childhood. I used to be very obsessed with my weight and with food, still am at times, but luckily, I have an amazing supportive partner who understands me. Haven't been underweight since.

7:23😭 The daughter thought the mom would never ask 😭 like she was just waiting for someone to ask her “why?” So the daughter can have that “no one gets me feeling” or “yes I finally don’t fit in with the population”.. that’s the vibe I got from that part lmao 😂😂😂😂

daz always makes me think about things a whole different way. i’ve seen that episode a few years ago and didn’t think much of it. i thought it was weird. (to be fair i was 13 at the time). now, as a 20 year old, with mental illnesses, i saw this video a completely different way. daz needs to do podcasts!!❤

Daz talking about the werewolf and Angel wing stuff was spot on. Like I thought I was a werewolf bc I just felt I was so small, powerless, and worthless that I wanted to feel special and powerful. I was bullied and my parents weren’t supportive and had no idea I was depressed my whole life until I was like 16 and said I wanted to 💀. My dad still doesn’t understand me but I know now why I believed what I did and how I just wanted an escape. God I stopped talking about it bc I’m pretty sure I started karate and that helped.

Actually, there is a compulsive disorder called "hemomania" that is about blood, drinking it, being obsessed with it, usually with your own blood though, etc Theres also Clinical vampirism, and autovampirism, that are obsessions with drinking blood in general; usually caused by a childhood traumatic event She probably has that, and it might be a result of a traumatic incident involving wounds, or something. idk, im not a doctor, but she should probably go see one cause drinking blood cant be healthy Edit: i mean, her getting her blood tested regularly and seeing the doctor more is a step in the right direction, kind of, its not perfect but its- well, its babysteps you know? Better then nothing
