That is an awesome sawmill, especially with the adjustable horizontal saws. You make it seem easy but I bet it took a long time before you were that quick at sizing the boards. Nicely done my friend.

THANKS for showing this beautiful work. Grandpaw was a sawmiller before - (in France during), and long after WW1. I remember the mill as a child in North Carolina- 1950s. Can you show me how you control the saw?? As an amature Cabinet and Furniture maker, I drool over all that magnificent lumber. Shalom and Thanks- Bill Proverbs 16:9

Man I love watching those old circle sawmills saw. Yours seems to be a fine tuned unit. If you don't mind my asking, what brand is this mill, and what year was it manufactured? I live in Owen County and am amature sawyer myself, using a Woodmizer LT70 for my own projects. I do however, love the circular saw kerf pattern on the boards sawn by them. Keep the videos coming, and updates on your log house would be great. Thanks, John.

Debarkers, no matter if they are the ring type or head type are tough mother efers. Black Oak is a beautiful specie.. I can see what it would look like after planing.

How long does it take to sharpen the big, lower blade? I notice that you sometimes use just one of the edging saws to split some of the outer slab first cuts, in half--why is that? What's the longest log your carriage will handle? With both the main saw blades, what's the maximum depth you can saw (assuming it's able to fit on the carriage)? Are you able to individually adjust the blocks if you want to taper cut? I assume if that's the case, it will automatically reset them to the regular position, after. How do you go about sawing banana ones? Yours is the best head rig one there is.

I meant video production-wise, as well. but then your spoken diction seems a little more university educated, so that makes a big difference.

If I’m just sharpening because of use and not because I’ve hit something, 15 minutes. I split those first slabs because they go through our grinder easier. And I may be mistaken by what you mean by depth. But the edgers keep me from ripping off no more than 7” at a time. The edger blade box gets in the way you see. And yes! I can adjust each bunk out individually. And it’s doesn’t go back automatically. I I have a button I have to hit. If I don’t hit it, it leaves a tapered block or cant! And I actually would like to put a banana log on a video soon. So I can explain to folks who don’t understand, the waste you see is just straight edging the crooked log!

@@HelmsburgsawmillNo, what I was meaning is what's the thickest that the two rip blades can handle. But I'm glad for the info on the edger blades.

That edger saw is the cats meow . Are you setting it as the carriage returns ?
@Helmsburgsawmill
4 ай бұрын
Yep! Im pulling the carriage back in one hand, and adjusting my edgers with my toggle switches at the same time. I’m trying to get them close to where I think they’ll need to be and when I’ve fully pulled the log back I just have to make little flicks on the switches.

I’m curious…if you’re not edging the board down to final dimensions, what’s the point? Don’t you have to edge it again regardless? Is this just a way to get some of the scrap out of the way earlier?
@Helmsburgsawmill

It won’t be going through an edger like that again. First thing that happens to all of those boards is they get sanded on all four sides
