Durante was almost 80 then. "The Dean Martin Show" was the best thing on television back then.

one of the nice things about Dean's show is it gave some of the old-timers a chance to be in the spotlight again. Even though he is a shell of his former self.

Hey, man...let's see how you're doing when you are 80! I bet you'll be doing good just to cut the cheese! May I add that be was going strong just the summer before when he did his summer replacement show with the Lennon Sisters...that "shell" was still kicking ass then!

You can see the cue card guy moved to quickly or the camera cut to Dean to slowly because you can see him enter the frame with Ken Lane.

@@Pritchie45 And I bet the NBC Peacock was green too. that's a cheap color TV set for 1971. Sadly, Dean never gave up smoking, even as a New Years resolution. It's what caused his death from emphysema on Christmas morning 1995. He spent the night before listening to Christmas music on the radio before going to bed for the last time in his life, according to his daughter, Deanna. Dean's TV show was great. my Italian American Great Grandfather loved him. R.I.P., Dean Martin (1917-2015.) R.I. P. Jimmy Durante (1894-1980.)

@@JSB1882 "Lane" says Wikipedia. Ken made it to the age of 83, dying of emphysema in 1996. Damned smoking! Lane was the co-writer of "Everybody Loves Somebody" in 1947, which became Martin's theme song.
