At last! I've hunted through several recordings and here's the one that gets it. Enough mic-ing to hear both the softs and the deeps. The swelling and easing orchestral sound that plays like light and shadow coming and going between moving clouds comes through. The pacing is right. When I watch clouds come stealing slowly across the sky this music plays in my head. Nuages is my favorite Debussy piece because his music captures what clouds do a lot of the time. How did he do that? Change visual to aural so meaningfully? When performed by an excellent orchestra, this piece is magical.

Very interesting and refreshing take on the “march” portion of Fetes at 11:42. Much more slurring/legato and less attack than most recordings, but that actually beautifully reveals the long melodic lines that exist here.

What is that "bulb" on the back of his English horn? I assume the instrument is made of rosewood from the color but I have never seen that kind of shape on the back of a top joint before.
_thoughts:_ sometimes i wish i could travel back in time. only for a short moment. i would say to certain people that even after decades or even centuries they are still admired; and their work is still appreciated. margaret rutherford, louis de funès or claude debussy would be (next to a few others) such persons for me 🤍

@Paul van den Ham . I see no problem ─ taking movements from two separate works by Debussy to create a custom-made suite for this concert is still a "Suite". For me, the compilation is interesting, these separately-sourced movements seem to work well together as an exploratory exercise. And of course, in the hands of this wonderful orchestra, it provides a feast of luscious music.

En mi opinión, la música española del 19 Albeniz, Granados, Falla, Tarrega... . influyó en músicos de otros países. Incluso Rimsky Korsakov con su “capricho Español” le hizo un gran homenaje.

To a certain extent, you are partly right. This version is very good, but I believe Debussy is one composer who needs a lot of rehearsals to bring out the great amount of nuances his work hides. In this sense, studio recordings can be better. Also, renouncing the choir and the choir sections is a sin. For example, Haitink's Nocturnes kzitem.info/news/bejne/uHtuxaSsrZOJgYY

Perhaps the question is: How many times did he conduct it already? Even Dutoit had his start with this Debussy, and no one born already done.
