You have such a welcoming voice way of speaking. Sitting on my font porch, just watched a man stop his car, knock on my neighbor's door, asking if he could cut the two yucca Gloriosa flowers off of his tree. They grabbed these large, 8 ft sheers, cut them down, and they each took a bush of flowers. I thought it was medicinal, but I see it's for the flower. mine hasn't flowered yet, but it's a younger plant...if that has anything to do with it. I'll be back for this recipe the day mine do produce a flower. thanks for the video.

Wow!! I’m so amazed! I just learned today what type of plant was growing in my yard and that the blooms are edible. That this plant is so very versatile from eating, to making soaps and a good fire starter! For years I’ve hated this plant, looks so ugly in my front yard landscaping, and I’ve tried to kill it to no avail! Just keep getting more every year! I thought it was some kind of weed. Mine our just bloomed and I was going to cut them down but my curiosity of what plant it is and how to kill it has saved me from doing so. I found your channel in possible recipes for the flowers and found the one where you scramble with an egg. I just finished it and was so delicious! Reminded me of an artichoke (I boiled the petals for 5 minutes). Thank you so much! Now I will keep this plant around and I might just try the above deep fry!

Thanks for your kind words, Remnant Few! I do use a cold water soak like that for some other plants, like hop leaves and acorns. I'm not sure whether it would work for all things. And I sure would not use it for wild mushrooms - most of them absolutely need to be cooked. You've made me curious, though. I'm going try it on some river birch (Betula nigra) leaves from my yard. I like them in salads when they are really young, but they get too astringent-chalky too quickly. A soak might take care of that.... Thanks for your question!

That's great, One Little Indian. Different species, and even different plants can have more or less saponin in their flowers. I have found some plants where I can have a few petals, and I do put a few unpollinated fruits in the center of each flower into my salads every now and then. But other plants cause me problems. Even with this cold leaching, or with blanching in boiling water, I think yucca flowers are worth the effort. I'm glad you are enjoying the yucca flowers around you!
