Interesting story about risk, kind of sad too: obviously this song was written when Chi was in a coma. The song is about that feeling when someone you know and love is in that state and you can’t do anything about it, but you’re hoping and praying that you can. You even think that there might be something you can do, but that’s just wishful thinking. You wish it was as easy as staying by their bedside and coaxing them to wake up, but it isn’t. The song represents the feelings of the entire band during his coma, and is named after the game risk that they all used to love to play in the studio together

That’s incredible. So funny I see this, I was just thinking “Diamond Eyes” is probly my fav Deftones, and that’s saying something, what if I got a tattoo of the album cover or the owl....

@@TwinTalon01 I went to Manila to have mine done....I was living in Dubai at the time when the artist started my tattoo. Come to find out that the artist was deported from the UAE when they found out he was tattooing out of his apt so I had to fly to Manila to have the owl finished. Fun times.

For this album, Chino took some singing lessons to help with his vocals and chords. He had strained his vocal chords for many years (even for surgery) so you can definitely hear the confidence and clarity shining through. Diamond Eyes was the album that started their resurgence into the spotlight. With S/T and SNW behind them, they were starting to fade into “cult” status. Still selling out shows and touring, but they weren’t as commercially relevant. Chi’s accident really brought the metal community together for a moment to help pay respects to Chi and the band. You can tell that it put a fire under their ass. Those shows during the DE/KNY years were amazing. So much energy and excitement from new and old fans.

Beautiful album. I slept on this one. Checked out on the band after Chi’s accident for some weird reason. Couldn’t bring myself to listen to the Sergio stuff. Ohm’s peaked my interest again and Diamond Eyes and Koi No Yokan became two of my favorite albums in a hurry.

Love this album Koi Is my personal fav. Can't wait to for more ... I Love watching someone get into a band I have been a HUGE fan of since i'd say late 96-early 97 ish... I grew wit the band and the way they evolved through the years along with me as i grew older just always seemed to fit where I was at in my life ... A lot of people don't like Gore the album .. I personally think it's great just wasn't mixed good..

Funny to see you enjoy Prince so much, knowing Rocket Skates is coming right after to give you no break at all! This album begins with a series of absolute bangers then shifts in a more melodic, atmospheric pattern which is as good, if not better. I mean, Sextape-Risk-EVIL-This Place is Death is just a perfect fork of ''sex music''. Personally, my favorite song from the record is 976-EVIL; in my mind, a very underrated piece off of Deftones catalog (and the way it blends into This Place is Death - Pure nostalgia!) See ya on Koi No Yokan, another amazing album / my favorite.

Frank is so damn amazing on this album. Sometimes I like to listen to the instrumental tracks so that I can hear his work not covered up by the vocals. Risk is one of my favorite instrumentals because of Frank

The first 6 songs all transition so good that every time I hear one song I have to hear the whole album, so good. This is the beating heart of Deftones in their second life💪🏻 RIP Chi Cheng

Watching you get into this makes me want to listen to it again. If you liked this one then you'll like the next one, because Chino often says how they are like 2 parts of the same album. They have the same mix sound and general feel. Some of my favourite albums of all time.
