I just made some yellow summer squash chips tonight on a whim since I have an over abundance of squash right now. Dried them for about an hour and a half, 1/8" thick round cuts. I cut the squash crosscut. They're alright, not as crispy as I was hoping but I had to stop as it's getting pretty late here. Will try more again in the coming days and leave more time to do them.. Thanks!

I did a whole load of yellow squash yesterday and will have a video soon. I sliced 1/8 long way and dried at 145 for 12 hours. They are extremely crispy and have a very unique flavor. Break like a potato chip. My zucchini plants are being destroyed by squash bugs now. Thanks for watching.

Thank you so much for making this video. I never thought about dehydrating zucchini. The wide slices you made, I use those fresh in place of lasagna noodles so now I'm wondering if the dehydrated ones would work also? You know they sell "regular" lasagna noodles in the store that don't have to be boiled first before using so maybe these dehydrated wide zucchini would work that way also, just re-hydrating in the sauce? Thank you for giving me another way to preserve my summer vegetables! Blessings to you both, tell the Mrs. hello, hope she is doing well. MiChelle

My wife is thinking the same thing and wants me to try some without seasoning. You would definitely have to soak it in water to re hydrate before using but it may work with just the sauce also if a little water is added. It definitely makes a great snack with the seasoning and the fine hay like batch will be used for cooking. Thanks, we are both doing well. Thanks for watching.

I tried drying round slices, of small zucchini. Like you would cut cucumbers for bread and butter pickles. Not good as a snack. I think the seeds ruined it. I'll use them up by adding to soups. I tried it years ago with the Nesco dehydrator that I had and it came out like shoe leather. This new dehydrator makes it come out almost like chips. I think having temperature control to slow down the drying helps. The krazy salt adds a ton of flavor also. You definitely don't want the seeds in it when drying. We use those lid attachments almost every day and they really help keep the sealed items fresh tasting. Thanks for watching.

HAHA Zucchini hay that almost cuts your mouth! THANK YOU. Perfect timing. I am picking so much zucchini and trying to figure out what to do with it all. You can only use so many pickles. I do not know why i never thought to dehydrate them. What a fun experiment. Will you eat them as snacks this winter? How else will you use them? I bet I could dehydrate my kale too like that instead of freezing it all for smoothes. WHAT a great dehydrator. I wish I knew that existed before I bought my Excalibur a couple years go. I have the biggest one they make but yours is awesome.

I have had enough zucchini for the year now. The squash bugs haven't arrived and it's still growing like crazy. The freezer is full of zucchini bread and noodles are coming out of my ears so I decided to try this. The slices are easiest to eat and the hay style will be used in cooking. They actually are very tasty with a little krazy salt coating. We are planting the kale this week and may try some instead of the oven chips. This dehydrator is great for veggies but does not get hot enough to safely process jerky that was the reason I bought it for. They advertised it with a 160 degree temp but it doesn't get close and the manufacturer doesn't care. Cabella's actually sells one twice this size for bigger families. Try some of the 1/8 inch slices for the best snacking results. Thanks for watching.

Cabelas. There's a video about it back a ways. It's good for veggies but doesn't get hot enough to safely process jerky. Thanks for watching.

Zucchini hay! lol😂 what kind of mandolin would you recommend as we are in the market for one. 👍

That's what a mouthful tastes like. Better for cooking. I have the Cuisinart and it definitely is not the best but was only 20 bucks at Costco. I have not tried any others and would recommend you check out the cooks country reviews to see if there is one they recommend. A cut proof glove is a good idea for starting out also. Thanks for watching.

I need to tweak my reply....I love my pampered chef mandolin but I can't get LONG strips. I can only do round circles or short strips so if you need long strips you'll need to find a different brand. Sorry for the confusion!

Crazy question... where did you the strainer in your sink?

I don't remember, it must be 20 years old. Here's a similar one on Amazon amzn.to/2YRUAyk but I am not sure if it is the exact same size. Looks like all the new ones are from China so I doubt they will last as long as ours has. Thanks for watching.

Watch MI gardener on utube. He explains how to open up the plant by actually pruning out some of the foliage to allow pollinators better access. I tied it this year...it really works!!!

I don't like pruning squash plants as they are hollow and it gives bugs easy access to the plant. Never had a pollinating problem. Plant lots of sunflowers they attract thousands of bees.

This is the first year I'm pruning mine so no bug problems yet... but the season is not over!
