I use this monitor with my Mac and it's been great. I think the review mentions everything exactly as it is. Text clarity is amazing, speakers are ok and design wise, it's not ugly(fit for office use and nice bezels that are not too thick). I found out the audio gets this annoying noise(poor bass) at around 75%+ with video calls or regular videos. Dell is replacing the monitor for me. Let's see how it works after that. Great review 👏🏼

FLICKER ALERT!! I’ve owned this monitor since 11/2/22 and had no problems till yesterday (11/30/22). My monitor is connected to my 16” MacBook Pro (w/ M1 Pro chip), via a Dell USB-C cord connected to the MBP’s power connector. Prior to the flickering, the only changes I made to my setup were 1) upgraded MBP’s OS to Ventura, and 2) adjusted my Dell S2722QC monitor’s “Preset mode” (brightness profile) to “RTS”. The flickering didn’t start immediately, after making those changes, but occurred after about an hour later. To stop the flickering, I changed the “preset mode” back to “standard” and turned the monitor’s power off, then on. The flickering stopped. Unfortunately, I don’t know if it’s a long term issue, but my gut feeling it’s probably the MacBook Pro causing problems with the display (i.e. display settings) and not the fault of the monitor.
@GladysGrace001
Жыл бұрын
More than likely it could be the iOS version if you’ve updated to Ventura. I’ve been reading many reviews myself and leaning towards getting this monitor for my Mac Studio desktop I currently own another Dell monitor I believe 25 inch but the scaling resolution is currently the issue with small font and icon. Although is doable for now until I get acclimated with my Mac Studio a long 8 yrs+ upgrade from my MacBook Pro.

@@willm127 As far as the flicker is concerned, I read somewhere to do the following: Go into your system settings and go to “displays”. You will see an option to activate or deactivate “True Tone”. Turn it off. I found it stopped the real bad flickering, but noticed some very minor flickering, weeks later. I expanded and shrunk the window and the flickering faded away. As far as your volume control question, I adjust the monitor volume using the hardware’s control panel. The sound of my MBP speakers is so good, I don’t even notice anything from the monitor speakers. Bottom line, I’m still liking the monitor and I’m hoping Apple will do better on their monitor profiles. Worst case, I’ll find a different monitor (Samsung M8?) and use the Dell monitor on one of my PCs.

Thanks for the great video! One question I've been trying to find this answer online but haven't seen it clearly stated anywhere yet... I understand this monitor has USB-C power delivery to a laptop. My laptop has a USB-C port with DisplayPort support, but it does not support charging the laptop via that USB-C port. Is it possible to still connect this monitor to the laptop via USB-C for passing the video signal and enabling the downstream USB-A ports on the monitor, knowing I would still need to use my laptops separate AC adapter for charging? I assume the connection is smart enough to still enable those video and data features without trying to charge the laptop since it's not supported on the laptop, but was hoping you could confirm that. Thanks!

I would not bother paying extra for an usb c PD monitor if your hardware won’t support it. The big thing with this feature is that you only need that one cable for image, usb ports and charging. Coming back to your question: Like any power supply it shouldn’t put out any power if the laptop doesn’t „order“ it to do so.

More monitors need to have usb c or even usb 4 port.

I'm currently thinking about getting a 4k monitor, but there is one thing I'm worried about: I occasionally will use it for gaming on a laptop that doesn't have a very powerful graphics card. Upgrading the graphics card isn't an option. Playing in 4k won't be possible with that graphics card. Does anyone have experience with playing with the game at to 1080p on a 4k screen? Naively I think that this should scale up to the screen without blurriness effects as 4k is an exact multiple of 1080p resolution, so one p0ixel calculated by the laptop would be displayed by 4 adjacent pixels on the monitor. Should this work, or am I missing something? Thanks in advance!

Hello, Unfortunately monitors don't have the same upscaling processing as on TVs, so you're right that each pixel just needs to be multiplied by 4, but the image isn't as crisp as on a TV. Also, if you sit close to the screen you'll see the bluriness more, but it isn't so much of an issue if you sit further away. I hope this answers your question and let me know if you have any more!

Between S2722QC and QS, does it make any differences if it’s only usb c VS hdmi? I’m using it with Mac Mini so I don’t need the charging. I read that picture quality might be affected or I may not get as many resolution options?
@RTINGSdotcom
Жыл бұрын
The Dell S2722QC is an updated version of the Dell S2721QS with many of the same features, but there are a few differences. They're built the same and have similar picture quality with an IPS panel with wide viewing angles and a 4k resolution. However, the main differences are with the inputs; while the S2722QC has a USB-C input and two USB 3.0 inputs, the S2721QS has a DisplayPort input, which the S2722QC doesn't have. The S2722QC has a slightly quicker response time, but other than that, both monitors are similar. Feel free to check out our full comparison here: www.rtings.com/monitor/tools/compare/dell-s2721qs-vs-dell-s2722qc/16917/28689?usage=3623&threshold=0.10

There are no issues using this monitor with a recent Mac. On an M1 MacBook Pro, the scaling defaults to 1080p, but this is easily corrected from the 'Displays' menu. VRR and HDR are both supported properly, and there are no issues waking from sleep. We do talk about Mac Compatibility in our full reviews on our website though, so it may be worth checking out!

isn't the max refresh rate 75hz?
@RTINGSdotcom
Жыл бұрын
You can technical achieve 75hz, but there's a lot of quirks and caveats and it isn't really usable for most users. For instance, the manual states that you would have to drop it to seems like it can only do it if you drop it to really low resolutions (1280 x 1024 would be the highest resolution with a 75Hz refresh rate according to the manual). Hopefully that clears things up!

This is a garbage display. Don't recommend buying it if you a) plan to connect it to a macbook or b) hope that it lasts you for more than one year. The swivel is nice, the price is right, and for a while it might looks like it would fit your bill, but it is ridden with bugs and will be thorn on your side. Dell support is unhelpful so unless you want to ride the call-center merry-go-round, save yourself some gray hair and buy something else.

Please excuse my ignorance on USBC and T3/4 compatiblity; how do I know if the Dell S2722QC - or any other USBC monitor - will work optimally with a Macbook Pro 13" M2 with TB4 ports?
@RTINGSdotcom
Жыл бұрын
You won't have issues with the S2722QC over USB-C, but you just won't be able to use the full Thunderbolt 4 support/power because the Dell doesn't support it. That's the same case with most USB-C monitors on the market too. Hope this clears things up!
