That was the first time cocaine was sniffed on TV, (or pretended to be) whether it was a cookie or not. And it WAS relevant to those times as almost EVERY popular band in the late 70's was on massive amounts of cocaine: The Eagles (Joe Walsh was out of his mind) Fleetwood Mac (Stevie Nicks once bought $1 MILLION in cocaine) Neil Young David Bowie Aerosmith (ALL of them needed speed to "get right" before they imploded) Rolling Stones Eric Clapton (Almost killed himself with coke and booze) Van Halen Crosby Still and Nash, Young.

I was in a restaurant in Santa Monica with the actor James Stacy when, following the main meal and before desert, he brought out a folded sheet of paper, opened it in the middle of the table to display a modest pile coke, and asked in his normal speaking voice, "Want some?" The place was packed and nobody batted an eye (and no, I've never done drugs). That was the second time I was offered cocaine in a public place.

It's a damn shame "Taxi" has been largely forgotten compared to the overrated success of "Back to the Future". Seinfeld's Kramer was Rev. Jim lite (without the heart) for morons. If Rick and Morty weren't exploiting both of Christopher Lloyd's characters, the cartoon wouldn't exist. Although one could say that there are traces of Jim *in* Doc Brown...
