I drain the tank complete and remove heating elements. Use a shop vac with a short hose attached and vacuum out most of the sediment. It will get about 90% out. Then install 2 new heating elements. Takes about 2 hours.

This has performed exactly as desired kzitem.infoUgkx8G49mV71sAzUl9shXyLW-r3XgHH9EVh1 . Basically, instant hot water instead of waiting up to two minutes as it was before. I have had this installed almost exactly one year now and just replaced the anode which is pictured. I pulled it out at six months and cleaned the heating element and removed debris. I would recommend a cleaning every six months and an anode replacement yearly. A mild citric acid and water solution soak really helps clean the heating element and tank. It must be fully disassembled to do the cleaning and that is not difficult but could have been made easier with a couple of design changes but no big deal.

So I bought this thing a few months ago when I had money and finally got around to cleaning out the water heater today since I have no money to do anything lol. Don’t judge me. Haha. So easy to use . Like I tell my wife if I say I’m gonna do something I have a 6 month time period to get it done haha. It was harder to clean the closet and remove the drywall than it was to use the tool. 2 thumbs up

Several reviews claim the plastic housing is too frail and that the unit cracked either during installation or during installment. Any plans to improve the durability of the housing? Several of the reviewers had their entire water heaters leak after the housing cracked. I am also very concerned about the glass lining of my water heater. Seems risky to have a metal spring flailing around in there and not doing some damage.

I'm a buyer, and fan of the product. I've got 4 water heaters and this thing makes quick work them. I've used the wet vac method which also works well (vs gravity flushing and power flushing which are useless IMHO). The Turbo Tank cleaner is way more convenient than the wet vac method, not having to drain the tank first, or having to remove the lower element (risk of breaking if it's engulfed in sediment), or the gas control valve to get access to the inner tank, and then poke around for half an hour to break-up and vac out lots of sediment. It's obviously a plastic-type housing and has some internal small parts t'boot, so use should be respectful not to over snug things, and to hold your drill steady and straight when it's attached. To be extra safe set your drill clutch to the lowest resistance. Maybe they can make a more robust version for plumbers using it daily (most plumbers I know would not use this because they'd sell less new tanks, but they will flush a tank for you for $100+ despite it doing next to nothing as to removal of sediment). As to your concern over the glass lining (it's not actual glass), keep in mind that resistance from the water, and being under pressure at the bottom of a water heater tank dramatically slows down the speed which the agitator churns about inside the tank, so, much different than if the tank was dry. At slower speeds not much perceivable risk to the tank lining. Before I bought a Turbo Tank unit I called and spoke with the inventor, very nice guy, and asked if there was risk that the agitator damages or even wraps around the lower element (typically ~8-"10" up in an electric tank), and he assured me he's never gotten feedback of that happening. For me well worth the risk.

@@fasolagri2115 Your answer made me think of a question (thank you!)...If we whack all the sediment around and pull some of it out but the tank is still full, wouldn't that end up with way more sediment in the tank that's loose after we do the cleaning? Or have the reviews I've seen of this product all missing articulating the detail that we are going to need to drain the tank after to start fresh after all the gunk is out? Thanks so much!

My house is 3 yrs old and in the winter (Houston TX) the water takes a while to get hot, I end up wasting water. So I did this and when I removed the original valve brown water came out but no sediment. After using the Turbo Tank Cleaner there was no sediment coming out. Does this mean that my tank doesn't have sediment because it's fairly new? Anyone.... Ty in advance!
@AJ-ox8xy
Жыл бұрын
Are you on well water? Normally if the tank is new, only 3 yo, then that's because you have hard water. The best you thing you can do for all your appliances is add a water softener so you avoid having to do this stuff in the first place. Also if your tank is really 3 yo, then you likely have little to no sediment in it. Most tanks take at least 4 to 6 years to really fill up with sediment. But that's just my area. Could be different for yours.

Thanks for sharing this. I'm in the same general vicinity but rural so the minerals here are pretty tough - I notice it in my regular cleaning - bathtubs are difficult to clean etc. I'm not sure how old my WH is but I'll keep this in mind since we are close by. I'm sure you're on urban city water so would have a different filtration than we do here.
