Denny Hamlin shared his perspective on the eventful NASCAR race at Talladega alongside co-host Jared Allen. Denny talks about how slow the pace was for the majority of the Cup race as all of the drivers conserved fuel, and what could potentially be done with adjusting stage lengths or the overall race length to eliminate the need to save fuel.
Then, Denny explains Toyota’s bold pit strategy that had all the Toyota teams working together to pit early on the final stop, and come back on the track in a single-file line to try to make up time on the larger pack. This strategy led to a wreck that eliminated the majority of the Toyotas, including Denny, from the fuel-saving superspeedway race. Despite the chaos, the plan ultimately paid off: Tyler Reddick skillfully maneuvered past Brad Keselowski to get the win while a wild wreck was unfolding beside and behind them. Adding to the excitement, 23XI co-owner and basketball legend Michael Jordan was there to celebrate with Reddick and Denny in Victory Lane.
Was Michael McDowell’s late-race block a decision that Denny would have made?
