@@Tiasung you do realize that the purpose behind all of these beloved video games was to make money, right? That's literally the only reason why they exist, to make money for the studio. This is the only game that actually made me feel less like Rambo who had to do everything but part of a huge military effort desperately trying to fight an enemy that is vastly superior. One of the few games where you know your faction is actively losing after every single mission. This is also the scariest Space game ever made. The Shivans are also frightening because even after the hundred Shivan kills, you still dunno what the F they want or who they are. Every single time you think Humans manage to gain parity or slight edge, the Shivan suddenly and painfully reminded the player just how vastly more powerful they are, making it seems they are just toying with humanity (and the Vasudans).

Back in the days of dialup, Volition released the voice acting lines for the intro. One segment that was not included, was Ash giving a frantic diagnostic of his systems back to the riviera comms - and in that brief interlude, he frantically reveals his copilot is dead. If memory serves this was right before the line "sit tight, we're sending recovery craft now". (You can get a brief glimpse of his dead copilot in the aerial shot).

Sorry for the late reply - unfortunately no, I don't know the voice actor. Really, all I have is an old memory of going over some document file that had the script for voiced lines in the cutscenes. I believe it came from volotion's website itself under 'extras' - this was back when you had to manually download a patch file from there website, so many files related to freespace 1 were there (I think there might have even been concept art?). At any rate, it was going through this weird document file that I noticed the discreptancy - since I was such a fan of the intro. It was only after visiting the Hard Light forums (unnoficial freespace remake) that someone else noted in the still that there's a rear copilot, and commented they were dead. Unfortunately, with the closure of Volition, I don't think we'll ever know if actual voice lines were recorded, or if an actual render was there but was cut for pacing reasons. Hopefully, soneone at the hard light forums might know more. Wish I had some concrete evidence and not some far-off memory...

THIS is how you do a video game intro. You (as the player) are not quite sure what's going on, the ambient music is setting the mood, and then BOOM you're listening to a pilot scared completely out of his mind. You think he's going to make it to the station and then...nope. It's the kind of intro that after you get done watching it you just sit there, a chill running down you're spine and you're left thinking, "WHAT JUST HAPPENED!? ...I gotta play this!"
