I did a tournament at gameshop once back in the 90s. That gameshop is now a sewing/crafts shop. It made such an impression on us as young men that one of my friends went back and asked to tour the sewing shop and regaled the ladies working there with the fact that we had once played a tournament there and we sat in such in such place, etc. etc. According to him they actually enjoyed the story and didn't threaten to call the police. :)

Never a d&d tournament, but a bunch of PF1 ones at conventions. They were a blast and if memory serves, it was always the final story arc of that season, so it was always an epic conclusion one way or another. The way they did it was to have one over arching narrative and then within that, each level bracket had their own goals. 1-5 tables stood off against grunt level enemies, 6-9 was on generals, 10+ was on the big bad or getting items or other things pivotal to the story. It was a blast every time I played in it, no matter which level I was contributing as.

that sounds pretty cool! I never did a convention tournament like that, never really got into tournament play for that matter, but that was mainly because I was at whatever convention for a single day and spent the time browsing.

Sounds cool I’ve never played tournament style. I have had GMs at conventions give away prizes to the best player voted on by the players

tournament style is fun, mainly because you are always on guard and pay close attention to every detail in anticipation to see what you may be able to do to earn a point.

Never played in a tournament. I think the nearest con is at least a 12 hour drive away. And my local game store is 100+ miles away. Sucks living in the middle of nowhere sometimes.

nobody asked and cares trivia: - "Pech" means "bad luck" in polish language
@gamemasters

how is it pronounced in Polish?
@pescyn
6 ай бұрын
@@gamemasters actually it's quite easy - just grab a solid "p" next add "e" from "end", "ch" is a little bit tricky because it is actually one letter in Polish alphabet but borrow "h" from "help" and that will do. I really doubt if Polish "pech" was involved in that monster creation process ... but for example Vampire the Masquerade have those "szlachta" ghouls so who know

I hate that name. It blends a glottal-stop at the beginning and then has that J in it. The glottal-stop is produced by pressing the tongue against the roof of the mouth and sliding it back, allowing air to escape as a whistling sound in the case of the sibilant TS. The TL glottal-stop lets the air escape by going between the cheek and the sides of the tongue, like humming. The letter T isn’t pronounced. The letter J didn’t exist in Latin, which is the language most demonic names come from. It can be pronounced as a soft G, I or Y sound. At least they didn’t include a thorn at the end to really screw things up or transcribe it as a Y, like in Middle English. The best pronunciation I have seen for Tsojcanth is would look more like Soyacanth in English or possibly Soicanth. Since it uses characters that don’t exist in English, the Ts specifically, it just looks cool and alien to English speakers. I hate that damned name.

I right click > print > save as pdf it's at that point VERY muddy so I take each page into photoshop to clean it up, save THAT as a pdf then print it in booklet form. It's tricky and time consuming and is not perfect. But for me running at my weekend table, it's good enough.

it should be a good lead in to the rest of that adventure. But it's also a little odd in that they are releasing THIS that is for 9th level characters.. but then if you play the actual book this is coming from.. you're starting off at level 1.. so it's a little bit of a head scratcher..
