For example, tropical diseases are often very deadly and the reason is that if it’s carried by bugs or other parasites then its an advantage for the host to be knocked down and immobilized, to an extent that its hard for them to prevent other mosquitoes or bugs to pick up the disease and spread it to the next person and so on. This means that some diseases tend to get deadlier, and some tend to become less deadly, and the exact pressures involved are always a complicated matter.

I think we need to pull back from the specific matter of covid and look at underlying assumptions to base principles on. Should health be a public or private matter. Should govt be involved in health at all, and if so how. Then you can figure out what to do or not do about covid just from reasoning from there. All this stuff about what levels of risk acceptance vs avoidance that “we” are comfortable with is a nonstarter.

@@trevorpelton6393 Almost everything you do effects those beyond you so that's not really an argument in favor of anything. I used to go into work sick plenty, and if it was contagious you'd simply avoid me during work and that'd be that. Kids still go to school if they're sick so long as it's not really bad, both scenarios you can infect anyone just fine which objectively effects others beyond you. Your only argument is that covid is extra bad so it's justified, but the data doesn't support that, the majority of the data we do have is horrible due to hospitals over representing cases, death rates are exceptionally low, vaccine effectiveness isn't that effective and every new strand is immune to the last vaccine, meanwhile we're also not doing any data on how many lives have been hurt or outright taken due to our measures to try to prevent people from getting covid. People worrying about the culture of their town with too many mexicans, or muslims, it's identity whoring all the way down. And the FACT is that conservative people are more prickly and less tolerant of variance than liberals. I don't get butt hurt if some mexican family is having a quincinera nearby that is not part of my culture, but a conservative might. Bececause they are empty little SAMENESS bitch whores who are so fucking WEAK and fragile that the MOMENT there are a tiny bit too many people near them that are not JUST like them, they get agitated and scared. This is a human failing, but conservatives have it worse. You fucking dare try to argue against this, be prepared. I will bury you in the ground.

A more famous argument about pandemics is the 1918 flu, where some believe that because the serious cases where manhandled and brought to hospitals and so on while mild cases where not, the viruses that caused more serious diseases in people where selected for, due to dominant transmission taking place in hospitals, but I really doubt that hypothesis, because if other strains where more transmissible then they would become dominant over time irrespective of hospitals transmission after you selected for the more deadly variants, and if the more deadly strains where indeed more transmissible then it doesn’t matter a lot what behaviors we engaged in, as long as a small outbreak starts with the more virulent and transmissible strain, it will eventually become dominant. so yeah, several problems to point out about simple evolutionary arguments in this kind of context.

@@daviddavidson5961 some would say a lot of stuff is or isnt appropriate, but if democracy is defined that people have the power of decisionmaking, "one person one vote," then each person has a right to his own person. To have an experimental injection forced on anyone (this is not debatable because the trials aren't done yet and most aren't approved) is to deny them a right to his person. Love a good discourse. This is a healthy discussion, no hostility, well thought out discussion and counterpoints. No pursuit of gotcha moments. I will say though, Destiny’s argument that the death rate in kids is irrelevant as vaccinations are meant to help the people around them….isn’t it pretty obvious with this new variant that the vaccines don’t work great at preventing infection, preventing hospitalization sure…but Im just thinking of areas with super high vaccination rates where the virus is still rampaging through everyone. If thats the case why push the vaccine on children? I still think it should be a choice and dangling “in person”learning as the carrot is messed up in a lot of ways Also is there a reason Destiny looked down the whole time?

32:20 Sorry, but these guys are both super wrong. At least in my state ER's have to turn a lot of people away or have people waiting 12hrs to be admitted (only because somebody died). Even at one of the worlds most recognizable hospitals they're on code red because they have no room for people, and they're turfing ER people to other floors to be able to handle the load. It's true that this is probably regional in a way, but we have a super limited number of critical care beds and an EXTREMELY limited number of healthcare workers.

@@Name-cz5jj Probably not, but at least where I live the major hospital system only had to let go of 1%, and the clinical staff (doctors and nurses) had a greater than 99% compliance rate with a vaccine mandate, so most of the people fired were CNA's, orderly's and other non-medical personnel. I agree that letting go of staff doesn't help capacity. Unfortunately there has been a gigantic shortage of clinical staff for a long time, long before COVID was a thing.
