Colitis is a disease that affects the intestine.

This diet is based on light foods and gentle cooking methods, avoiding all potentially irritating substances. Obviously, there is a certain margin of subjectivity, because not all of us are equally sensitive to the same products. On the other hand, fried foods, stews, those cooked on the grill or on the grill, but also raw meat and fish, and raw eggs should always be excluded.
On the contrary, boiling, steaming, vaso-cooking, sous vide cooking and starting from a cold pan are recommended; all methods that leave no charring residue.
Alcohol, coffee, carbonated acidic drinks, sauces and hot spices, and all ultra-processed products should be avoided. Often, those who suffer from colitis are also forced to avoid milk and dairy products, and products very rich in fibre, such as legumes with peel and bran.
However, vegetables and fruit that do not trigger any symptoms are recommended, even if it is sometimes necessary to remove the peel. In general, hulled legumes and refined cereals seem statistically better tolerated, but this is a subjective aspect. While we can give the green light to lean meat, lean fish and a few eggs cooked in moderation, parmesan and parmesan.
For some, it may be useful to integrate a decoction of blueberry, mallow or marshmallow leaves or fruits, clay water and fennel herbal teas into the diet.
The diet should provide about 30 grams of fiber per day, mainly soluble, but it is advisable to personalize it, monitoring the body's reaction.

If we are not sure of the cause, it is always better to consult your doctor for a more certain diagnosis. In general, however, the diet for colitis should be started with very few foods, integrating others gradually, and evaluating the response of the intestine.
