Aswin is comparing the risks and benefits of the three systems Aquaponics, RAS and Biofloc. More details of each of these systems to follow.
Aquaponics & RAS both clear water systems - with densities of 40- 60 kg of fish (shipping time weight)/1000 liters. Aquaponics most investment intensive & not so successful in Kerala as vegetables are not economical and the bend tend to clog with solid waste even when filtered well and due to dead bio-films. Not suitable for low maintenance.
RAS can handle twice the fish density as biofloc (30 kg/ 1000 liters) but costs twice as much. The biggest expenses in biofloc are the aerator and tank. As no water pumps are involved in day to day operation of RAS or biofloc. A Sunsun aerator HJB-280 is capable of delivering 200 LPM in the pond is more than enough for the tank of 25,000 liter tank using airlift pumps as shown. The other main expense of round tank can be made pretty cheap using the technique shown by our earlier video.
More details on RAS and Biofloc in videos to follow soon.
