I love my Digitakt. It's the center of my setup, the brain which controls everything, the device I use to compose songs. It's like an old .mod tracker, but hands-on in hardware and modernized. It may be designed as a drum machine, but as far as I'm concerned, that's not even its main selling point... the drum machine functions are just a really nice added bonus.
@jarkokoo
5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, same here, Digitakt pretty much immediately became the center of my setup, when I got it last autumn. It just fits to my setup so damn well. But that said, I can totally understand, if it does not sit on everyone's setup. But that's how it is, not all instruments are for everyone or for every setup scenario. And when it comes to the question on the title "And is it still worth getting?" Hell yeah, absolutely no doubt about it. Just check Bo's, Loopop's, Stimming's and Cuckoo's reviews and you pretty much know if it's for you.

As far as I've seen, the Digitakt's only real competition is the Deluge. There aren't a lot of hardware sequencers on the market with anywhere near this level of detail. So... yes, it's still very much worth getting. It's one of only two products really worth considering in its class.

It really depends on what you're doing. The OP-Z is of course much better for portable use, and it has a lot of fun features for realtime performance. But it has only a fraction as much space, the sequencing functions are much more limited, and it has no screen unless paired with an iOS device. From what I've heard, the OP-Z is better for quick ideas and the Digitakt is better for longer and more complex songs. I find that the Digitakt plus a Blofeld is a really good combination, though I've just recently set it up and I'll probably be exploring it for years before I start running out of new things to try.

When I got it I needed a sequencer for my studio, as well as drums and sampler. It provided that for me and I made one of my favorite tracks on it. But as my studio grew it became obsolete. I needed a drum machine with multiple outs (TR8S) and my pc acted as my sequencer and I lost the need for much sampling. There are a few quirks when sequencing external gear. Some of it may be to so with the gear you are controlling and some are definitely to do with the DT. 1- controlling external CCs. If you set it to control, say, filter frequency, and then turn that off it often will just keep sending the data anyway. This can be super annoying if you have scrolled through the CC numbers to get to the one you want and it just randomly decides to carry on sending data on one of those CCs you scrolled through. 2- Bank changes. This is dependant on how your external gear responds to bank change messages, but gear like the Peak needs you send a bank select CC and a program number to change banks, and this tends not to respond on the first cycle through the pattern, so you bank will only change on the second time round, or on the second sending of the message. It’s also a bit random which is super annoying for live performance. My work round is to save all patches in the same bank so I don’t have to do bank changes. I do, however, really like setting multiple DT tracks to controlling the same polysynth, allowing you to build patterns all playing the sound patch. It’s a great way to pretend you have 4 hands playing a bassline, arp, chords and a lead line at the same time, providing your synth has a mode that avoids note stealing, like the Peak does. After nearly 2 years I’m still enjoying the DT. It’s still the brain of my set up, although its actual tracks are being played less and less and it’s more a midi controller and master clock, tempo and pattern sequencer for the Rytm (giving you per pattern tempo changes on the Rytm) and other external gear.

@@BigBadWolf.............. Song vs sound/sequencing bifurcation is silly. You can make fully tracked out songs on a digitakt, just as well as the MPC. The whole "song mode" thing is dumb anyways. Alex Young I think you were trying to respond to the other commenters. The Elektron workflow can take some getting used to and I made the mistake of selling mine before I really got to know it, which led me to buy it again a year later because I missed it. Once you learn the workflow it becomes second nature and you have a very powerful machine in your arsenal. Edit: just got to the end where you make the same point. 🤦🏻♂️

I’ve never used circuit but from what I’ve seen and heard from users of both, Deluge is a LOT closer to a very souped up circuit. Love mine.

I love looping, I have an Rc505 and use synth sounds as well as acoustic instruments such as guitar, ukulele, singing bowls, dulcimer, voice etc. It's often ambient with minimal beats, the RC 505 has 5 tracks Digitakt has how many, maybe I should try it/ rent it. Love your videos thank you!

Hi, tanx for the great review it was really helpful. Im new to electronic music and I wanted to buy a sampler device something like Korg volca Sample. But since I noticed the Digitakt and its capabilities, and also couldn't find any comparison between two anywhere, so I wanted to ask, should I still consider volca or should go with digitakt straight away? Regards

I know this is a really basic question, but it's something that no-one seems to ever mention or show.. Can you just load up a one shot sample like a hit or stab and program it chromatically without messing with the sample? It's the one thing that's stopped me buying a circuit.

Thanks Bo, great channel. I loved the bit reduction, which always sounds false on other gear where it's in the effects. I guess it must be actual bit reduction on Digitakt. My 1 piece of Elektron gear is the Sidstation.

This might sound dumb but when you say it only samples in mino does that mean you export it or save it as a mp3 or wave file you can only hear it in one side of the headphone ? Or am co fused about the meaning of mono

Hey Bo! Huge fan of what you do. Question, and would be grateful for an answer ❤️ I'm thinking about buying one to compliment my mc 101 (sampling from 101) as well as making my own. My question is if there is only 1gb of storage, how could I store things when I'm out of space?

Laptop but pretty sure you can get more storage space for it as well

It's very inspiring watching this video, but I'm assuming that once you've got everything in place, you'll need to work with a DAW to actually mixdown your work - i.e. this isn't a DAW, just a workstation that is a sampler (as well)?
@BoBeats

While you can do full tracks on it I would totally advise using a daw to finish stuff

@@BoBeats One more question. I still have a MPC 1000 which I guess has some similarities to the Digitakt. If you know this machine (which I think you do), maybe you can give me some advice, or an opinion, on the two units and if you think one could be more useful than the other? Thanks in advance.

I'm about to go out and buy this as my first equipment besides midikeyboard. But have one question I hope someone is willing to answer. I know if I connect the Digitakt to my Daw I can fill the midi tracks with VST's. But can I also do this with a single Keystep (for instance). So one midi keyboard to occupy all midi tracks?

Hi! buddy, thanks for share your experience! An easy question... how I can assign a sample to a bank?.... my +drive its almost full, but I only can see in the bank "A" the factory samples, but nothing what I have loaded... I have tried whit the overbridge to and I can't ... in the DT an the AF you upload the banks and it directly ask wich one you choose to save your sounds. thanks!!!
@modularmountain3910

Tio Solo are you talking about the sound pool? If you are the Digitakt is kind of weird in this sense. The soundpools are more for saving resamples. So... assign a sample to a track, alter it how you want, then press function + ..., and you will be taken to the import export menu. Export the sound to the pool that you desire. This is extremely time consuming but really useful for plugging in resampled sounds that you like. It still doesn’t really make sense to me to be honest. Lol.

If I connect the Digitakt with the Digitone over a Midi thru box from midimann and program midi program changes the devices do not follow exactly when I change a pattern, for example you go back and forward with the pattern on your master device.
@HotStrange

Why are you using a midi thru box? Just connect the 2 together. And what’s exactly the problem? You never really described exactly what’s happening.
