I never knew this was a David Bowie song until today. I've loved the Dinosaur Jr. version since the early 90s.

I knew right away cuz he's credited on the back of the album. Always read the liner notes. You find out little things like a band called The Frantix in 1983 wrote grunge-rock rules on theirs. They are from Denver . The band eventually morphed into the fluid and moved to Seattle in 89 or 90. As they were recording for subpop. How many different explanations have you heard of where that term comes from. Find me a reference to that earlier than that and I will agree that liner notes should be ignored.

Didn't know this was Bowie at first either.. when I was 12 a friend of mine showed me Dinosaur Jr, this song 1st and I loved it. Listening to it now, it's awesome how he changed 75% of the lyrics and the guitar too. Same chords but, the way he plays it especially in the beginning, sounds very much like Pink Floyd's song Wish You Were Here. I love it! Btw huge Bowie fan here, the original is timeless!!!

Chords and lead are almost just like David Bowie's song about Andy worhol. However J Mascis' different lyrics are a whole different meaning. Just incredible. I've been both a dinosaur 🦕 jr and a Bowie fan for a long time. One thing about dinosaur jr is that the covers of songs that j mascis does are as good as,if not better than the original versions. Most cover versions of songs by other artists are pale imitations at best.

There's something wrong with you. It's problably not your fault; it's your generation; you've been encouraged to appreciate mindless pap... generica! Generica would be a better name for this band, who appear to have not an ounce of understanding of the masterpiece that is Bowie's original. It certainly has nothing to do with vehicles and "ball shows", (whatever they might be). God... it makes me feel tainted with their mediocrity just BEING on this page!
