Join us as we go #scubadiving and #explore the HMS Scylla! The HMS Scylla was sunk in March 2004 in Whitsand bay close to the #wreck of the James Egan Layne to form the first artificial reef. Purchased by the National Marine Aquarium she forms part of a long term study to understand the effects of an artificial #reef on the environment.
It didn't take long for mother nature to colonise the wreck and over 250 different species have now been identified.
The Scylla is a Leander class frigate that was first launched in August 1968. She saw service in the waters around Iceland, the Caymen Islands, West Indies and Persian Gulf. She was finally decommissioned in December 1993.
