Do you use a different mower for outside the green or do you just change the HOC between the two sections? Keep topdressing and it’ll be tip top in no time. Congrats on the 1k subs!

Proper aeration needs to have material removed. The type of tool you’re using is not correct.. think about this, when you’re pushing that spike in the ground, the soil is being compacted around the spike…

Don't do it this way people. Do it the right way or semi the right like the USGA calls for, proper drainage and a 90% sand with 10% peat as your rootzone mix, that should be 12 inches deep.

Assuming you don’t have irrigation under the green? Not worried about poking it with the aerator?

Looking good. Love your idea for an aerator. I put one in in 2015. Lost it in 2017 to excessive heat and not enough water. Got it back in 2019 lost it in 2021 to over dose of insecticide. Just sanded and over seeded on Friday. I would post a photo but cannot see a place to add one.

Try your 3 inch holes compared to 12 inch deep, its called vertidrain by toro, you can do solid tine, hollow or drill tines. You really should be doing drill and fill though by yourself. Drill 12 in he's deep and replace that with sand

You are not bringing soil out.. just pushing it and adding more. That would cause more compaction in long run.

I would call that a spike more than an aerator, no? Pulling plugs loosen the dirt, you're kinda just making holes. Was that your intent?

I am going a little larger in that I am installing a croquet court. I have a mixture of bermuda and whatever blew in and took root over the years. I want to install a new sod using bermuda (Ft.Worth Tx) which is very suitable here. Question is which is the best way to go... lay the new sod on top of the current grass... I have a tiller and roller... I could till under the existing grass and lay sod on top of that... or do I need to completely remove what I can before laying the sod? I am planning on using new topsoil to make the court as level as possible. It is actually fairly level but I want it as smooth as I can possibly make it. Any thoughts?
