There are a lot of moving pieces when it comes to building a house by hand, off the grid. There is never enough time, and delays are disappointing. However, it is important for us to keep pushing and making progress, one step at a time.
After last week's concrete disaster (where we narrowly avoided calling a wrecker to come pull a fully loaded concrete truck out of the mud), we decided to start working on the floor beams while waiting for the final concrete delivery to complete the piers for our pier and beam foundation.
Our pier and beam foundation has three rows of piers - 8 piers to each row. That means we have 21 floor beams to fly into place. Each one weighs over 350lbs, so we are unable to place these bad boys by hand. Justin has a few ideas - the tractor can do the heavy lifting - but we need to try it out and see if we can maneuver our Kubota L47 tractor just right to place the floor beams in the perfect position.
After we figure out the best method for lifting the floor beams onto the concrete piers, we get our third concrete delivery. Third time's the charm with this delivery and we finally finish pouring the concrete piers for our pier and beam foundation.
